You have a diverting infection that will not go away unless you do the right things -

1/ Turn off System Restore

2/ Restart in safe mode with networking

3/ Download Malwarebytes and Spybot (both free)

4/ Update both programs prior to using them

5/ Run full scans with each program

6/ Delete any infections found

7/ Restart in normal mode and you should be OK

Some people prefer SUPERantispyware but I use what has always worked for me -

Also download AVG free and update it every week -

Do not worry about "last 5 points" as you can always ask questions.

answer person noknojon did not give you a link for AVG here it is:

Your Norton program should have been able to block it or get rid of it, but since it did not, you will have to run another program, probably more than once since some virus programs are very good at hiding. The first ones you get rid of are the easy ones.

SPYWARE/VIRUS ISSUES

Use the Spyware Terminator Package at http://www.spywareterminator.com .

You will see inside the program that you can do installs of an Internet guard which can monitor the internet. Also can download an AntiVirus program Clam AntiVirus, which is the best Open Source AntiVirus program. Spyware Terminator monitors all three of these components: Web Security Guard, Spyware Terminator, and ClamAV from its own window.

How to remove Fake Software (pop-ups), Spyware, Trojans and Viruses:

Download, install, update and scan your computer with both Malwarebytes and SuperantiSpyware, delete what ever they find, if this fails to completely remove the virus/spyware download then update Avast and run a boot scan (click schedule boot-time scan and restart your PC), all the software below is free and safe to use.

Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

SuperantiSpyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/

Avast Anti-Virus: http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

To protect your PC in the future you'll need to install anti-virus software and a firewall, id recommend using Avast and Comodo Pro firewall both are very effective and completely free, you should also switch to Firefox 3 if you are browsing with IE as its much safer and a lot easier to use.
