Is it possible? Yes, any operating system can get these problems, that includes Unix, Mac OS X, Linux, Windows, etc. Is it currently an issue? No. If it becomes an issue, someone will put out something to combat it, but currently the only thing really out is anti-virus for Linux. I would keep on top of news for it, but most people stay away from hacking Linux in any way, cause most people use it to make these things in the first place.

While it is possible, the more important question is what is the risk?

I have been using computers for a long, long time. I have probably had 3 or 4 virus problems - one a boot-sector virus in MS-DOS, from a floppy, and the others in windoze. I have been using Linux for the last 5 years or so (dual-booting with various flavours of windoze) and the only virus action I have had in Linux was using it to kill a windoze virus that I couldn't get to with the anti-virus program I was using at the time.

If you like to worry, the 800+ list that the other poster alludes to will give you fuel for that front. Or, you can use Linux and not worry about it. It is your choice - I take the latter view.

Oh, the risk of getting hurt in an auto accident is probably significantly higher than getting infected with a linux-specific piece of malware. So, I recommend that you be selective in your risk analysis.

yes you can, all operating systems can get viruses. I'm not sure about protection since there aren't very many viruses for linux so it would be hard to get a virus.

rather of mcaffee try avast antivirus it many times catches viruses as they're being downloaded I even have used it for a on a similar time as and its super it right away updates well-known not purely as quickly as a week like different courses. additionally the updates and scans dont interefere with what your doing on your pc. it does each little thing right away in the historic past and doesnt sluggish your pc down. it is going to cost you approximately seventy 5 money nonetheless for the expert version this is what I even have
