Admin Password Recovery?

I lost my Windows Vista Home Premium admin account password, and I'm trying to recover, not reset, it. I've tries using Ophcrack Live-CD, which loads only the standard accounts. Does anyone know any other user-friendly FREE password recovery software? I really need my admin password back!! Thank you!

If you didn't see it when you used Ophcrack for Vista then you never enabled the Admin account for Vista. Unlike XP, Vista doesn't enable an Admin account by default, it has to be done manually. You may want to enable the Admin account from another account with admin privileges if you can.



If you can get into another account you do this to enable the hidden admin account:



1. First you’ll need to open a command prompt in administrator mode by right-clicking and choosing “Run as administrator” (or use the Ctrl+Shift+Enter shortcut from the search box).



2. Now type the following command: net user administrator /active:yes



3. You should see a message that the command completed successfully. Log out, and you’ll now see the Administrator account as a choice.



Be aware there’s no password for this account, so if you want to leave it enabled you should create a password.
