Throughout today, my junk mail box has been plagued by emails all looking very similar. They typically come from 'Mail Delivery System' or 'MAILER-DAEMON' and the subject is 'Undelivered mail returned to sender' or 'Returned mail - see transcript for details'.
Does anyone know if these are viruses? Needless to say, I have not opened any of them but deleted them. But they keep coming, I have had 25 in the last hour alone! I have never had anything like this before. I'm with hotmail, why aren't they doing anything to stop this?!

Sounds like emails that your sending to people aren't going thru, which is why you are getting those email. Think of them as letters that are returned to sender.

MAILER-DAEMON has nothing to do with devils! It's the default name of the account that returns mail to you if you have addressed an email incorrectly. Same with mail delivery system.

For example, send an email to an impossible address from yahoo, such as sdfgetfdj@yahoo.com and within seconds you'll get a MAILER-DAEMON response.

It is not the EMAIL it is your infected computer. The Bots send mail about anything from Viagra to Russian Brides. Most importantly watch, the ""Bot Net experiment"" on Iplayer or you tube, it will be an education.

1.Install a good Anti-virus software and set it up correctly, most importantly, set up automatic updates.

2.Enable Microsoft auto updates and run a manual update on a regular bases

those are emails which are failed delivery, however some people send spam or phising or virus related emails from 'Mail Delivery System' or 'MAILER-DAEMON' etc. It is best just to delete these emails to be on the safe side.

At one time or another you opened up an email, unknowingly, and received an email virus which went to your address book, probably.

Next time, look at the headers of one of the emails returned to you and see if it was sent to anyone in your address book.

Run an email virus scan also. It's hidden somewhere.

Install avg or avast, it blocks virus infected emails and downloads and also blocks you entering bad websites
