SCAM, PAYPAL, your bank, any business would never contact you out of the blue like that, nad ask you to log into your account.... NEVER. The only time a legit business will contact you via email is after you have contacted them via email, or have purchased something from them online, and they will not ask you to log in to do anything. God gave you one, use it. EMAIL is not an official form of communication, for any legit business.

That was spam, I get those all the time. If you ever have a question as to whether the email is legitimate, do NOT log in from the link in the email. Instead, go to the site directly (in this case go to facebook.com) and log in from there. if there is a problem with your account, you will be notified by the real site.
No major legitimate company will ever send you a log-on link in an email unless you have specifically requested a password change or something similar.

Well done you did the correct thing.
I have only used PayPal once and I have £1 in credit which has been there for over a year.
No one has contacted me and this,I think, proves your message was a scam.

it was most likely a phishing email so you did the right thing
if you go back to your trash and look at the letter, and you notice:
-letter doesnt address you by your name
-hovering over the link yields an address not directing to paypal
those are dead giveaways
