What free software can I add onto my computer for protection?

Question

Im currently using AVG Antivirus Free Edition and I love it.

Should I get another firewall as well as spyware program?

If so please reccommend some for me thanks.

REMEMBER: I am looking for free software, and I would like programs that DO NOT or RARELY slow down my computer!

I prefer I junkier antivirus but faster performance rather than a top-notch security memory hog

So please help me! ;)

Most of the free stuff works okay but it can miss most virus infected files and adware. If you want to be really cheap you can pirate a virus software that has been cracked using a torrent tracker. You won't be able to run updates. Norton's is still the best but it uses up a ton of RAM. I run Norton's and Spyware Doctor. Spyware Doctor is only $20 and it has a virus program with it. It does a great job of getting rid of adaware and pop-ups. Both Spyware Doctor and Norton's have firewall protection. If you are running wireless your router should also have firewall protection. Or call your ISP, the router they gave you should have firewall settings. If you use ATT or Yahoo DSL it does and it has virus software.



The best thing to do is invest in RAM. It is cheap and it is the best upgrade to do.

Hmm I guise the first 2 posters didnt read that you have and love avg. I hate it when people copy & paste there answers and dont put no personal thought into every question. well if you are using windows firewall, then you need to get another one. zone alarm is good free firewall as is comodo. and get the free spybot search & destroy- addaware se 2007- and free prevx csi they are good tools to run with anti virus and all play well together. can get them free here= http://www.pcworld.com in the security downloads. and this free tool is a must. http://www.iobit.com good luck.

Get rid of AVG AV -it a poor AV; use Free Avast or Free Avira both have a better detection rate.



Download free comodo firewall & turn off windows firewall.

I think AVG has its own anti-spyware. Maybe even a firewall. Windows computers have a built-in firewall.
