You see, (I'm really stupid for this, but) I locked myself out of my own laptop. It's a Dell Inspiron equipped with Windows Vista. It would be nice if someone can tell me how to reset it, it was a pretty long password and easy to forget.

How To Remove Your Windows Vista Password

As long as you're the only user on your PC, deleting your Windows Vista account password

will allow you to completely bypass the logon process.

While it isn't a very security-minded thing to do, removing your Windows Vista

password might be something to consider if you have problems remembering your password.

Follow the easy steps below to remove the password to your Windows Vista logon account:

1. Click on Start and then Control Panel.

2. Click on the User Accounts and Family Safety link.

Note: If you're viewing the Classic View of Control Panel, you won't see this link.

Simply double-click on theUser Accounts icon and proceed to Step 4.

3.Click on the User Accounts link.

4.In the Make changes to your user account area of the User Accounts window, click theRemove

your password link.

5.In the text box on the next screen, enter your current password.

6.Click the Remove Password button to confirm that you'd like to remove your account password.

7.You can now close the User Accounts window.

8.Now that your Windows Vista account password has been deleted, you will no longer need to log on to Windows Vista when your computer starts. Windows will now load all the way to your desktop automatically.

If you want to 100% reset windows password, use Windows Password Key,it is really great.

1. Login to a computer that can link to Internet. Download windows Password key from http://www.lostwindowspassword.com and install it on that PC. Note that: there is a .ISO file. Burn the .ISO file to a CD or a USB flash drive.

2. Insert the newly created CD/USB drive to the locked computer.

3. Reboot the locked computer and press'F2'or'Delete'to enter your BIOS setup and then followed the process of instructions. Just a few steps, the old password was removed.

well, firstly, If you have owned another available admin password, it can work.

Just log on your PC->Click "Start"button->Control Panel->Add or remove user account->Select the account you want to reset->Change or Remove the password. Then the password will be reset.

Otherwise, i suggest you should use a third party to recover lost Windows password. There are many kinds of which have great performance and easy operation on Windows password recovery, such as Windows Password Unlocker and Ophcrack, Offline NT Password & Registry Editor.

With these, have a try and wish success!

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/102005-reset-user-account-password.html

1. To use your password disk to reset your password: (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Create-a-password-reset-disk)

You will not be able to follow these steps if you have locked your computer.

If you have typed the wrong password, you'll receive a message that says your user name or password is incorrect. When this message appears, click OK.

Click Reset password, and then follow the instructions.

2. To use an Administrator account to reset your password:

a) Warning: If you use an administrator account to reset the password, you will permanently lose access to any e‑mail messages or encrypted files that are on that account.

b) Note: These steps cannot be completed on Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic, and Windows Vista Home Premium.

c) Log on to the administrator account that you will use to reset the forgotten password.

Open Local Users and Groups by clicking the Start button , typing lusrmgr.msc into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER.‌ If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Double-click Local Users and Groups, and then click Users.

Right-click the account that you need to reset the password for, and then click Set Password.

Type and confirm the new password.

Hi there,

Try this...

Boot off the DVD, then after it finishes loading, on the bottom left corner you will select "REPAIR YOUR COMPUTER". From here the "System Recovery Options" box will load, and you need to click on "COMMAND PROMPT".

When the black "COMMAND PROMPT" box opens up, you need to type "mmc.exe" without the quotes.

Click on the File menu, select Add / Remove Snap-in option, locate and select the Local Users and Groups on the left panel, and click Add button to add it to the right panel.

Now, the Choose Target Machine dialog box pop up. Keep the default setting by clicking the Finish button – that means using the Local Users and Groups snap-in to manage this local computer, and not another computer in network.

Click OK button and return to MMC windows. Under the Root Console in left panel, double-click Local Users and Group that was added earlier. Click on User folder, locate and right-click the target Vista logon account that found in the right panel.

Select the Set Password from the right-click menu to set a new password / reset old password.

Remember, Vista does NOT have an administrator account enabled by default, so if you didn't add it, it isn't there.

Good Luck!

If you could use another computer which could download from Internet, you can create a windows password recovery disk. Third party windows password recovery software windows login recovery could create such a disk. Only four steps:

Step 1: Download Windows Login Recovery and install it on the available computer

Step 2: Run the software and use it to burn a Windows password recovery disk (you could burn the file into the blank CD/DVD or USB flash drive)

Step 3: Change the BIOS setting of your locked computer to make it boot from the CD-ROM (Start computer and press F2 or Delete to enter BISO setup)

Step 4: Boot your locked computer from the created disk and remove the Windows password

It is easy and safe. Hope to help you.

There is no way to reset, except if you created a reset disk. The only other option is to format your system. (If you select your Windows partition on Vista/7 Setup, you wont loose any data: It moves everything to X:\Windows.old)
