is it safe to delete any of the following:
ASTONSOFT
ComPlus applications
hijack this
msxml 4.0
symantec
netmeeting

please note that they are in my program files and that i don't ever use such programs and am unaware of any other programs using them
one file i see all the time under task manager is WINMX but i don't know whether its a good file or a bad file. please help me to identify each one and help know whether they are spam files or just garbage.

you can delete msxml 4.0 that is an empty folder it is kind of a screw up by microsoft when they added this update it did copy the files to the right location which was inside windows\system32 somwhere. that folder has no purpose. netmeeting and complusapplications you wont be able to delete because they are tied to the winlogon.exe process if you delete them by using a program called unlocker they will just be recreated on your next boot. i advise not deleting these 2 folders using a special tool ive done this before and my disk defragmenter wouldn't go past a certain point afterwards i believe because of where it relocated the folders on the disc like i said if you use a special tool to delete those 2 folders they will just come right back after a reboot anyhow my bad i just checked out process explorer and it looks like you CAN delete complusapplications

Hijack this is used to find spyware etc in your system. It outputs a file for analysis.
