I Tend To Dislike Norton, It's Always Been To Much Of A Resource Hog. Never Had A roblem With McAfee

I think Dell laptops are bundled with a free trial of McAfee. McAfee is better than Norton if you are looking for reliability AND speed (Norton tends to be pretty slow, especially if you installed Norton Security Suite as well).

I'll back up the people saying AVG is the way to go. Maximum PC magazine did a virus protection test between mcaffee, nortons, and avg. avg actually caught all of the viruses they sent at it while nortons and mcafee had one or two get through. avg is written by people who want to stop viruses and really care about it, so they write good code and updates all of the time. With the others have updates all the time they always push their "latest and greatest" versions.

AVG

Both Norton ans Mcafee are memory hogs and cost money.

PS; Laptop or desktop it makes no difference.

I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)

The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)http://www.grisoft.com/doc/289/lng/us/tpl/tpl01

The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)<--English version

AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)

AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)

The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.

These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.

ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.

The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

Hi, both Norton and Mcafee are very good in removing the virus. but you need to pay for the software.

i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar, which can disable the virus, becasue the virus can only run on IE.

firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and spyware, adware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:

None of the above. Try:

http://www.opensuse.org

http://www.debian.org

http://www.ubuntu.org

http://www.slackware.org

http://www.gentoo.org

http://www.freebsd.org

or, if you're willing to pay for it:

All of these people provide software that is well integrated,

better tested and just as functional as Microsoft - without

anywhere near the virus and security problems.

Yes, being more than 80% of the market makes you an

obvious target for hackers, but that does not change the

fact that many engineering decisions were either not made

or made badly within Microsoft - making their code design

inherently insecure.

When I had McAfee, the program would not let me open my own emails if they had any sort of attachment. It was quite irritating

Norton. I am not much of a fan of Crapafee, they like to take over your computer.
