If you're logged in on an unsecure network can someone hack into your computer and track what you're doing (internet history, files, etc)? Can you tell if someone is/has hacked in? How can you block a hacker?
Thanks!

in theory yes someone can hack into your computer. is it likely? no. there are very few people that know how to do this and much more importantly would actually do it. firewall is your best bet against protection though

Yes someone can hack into your computer via wireless. If you connected to the internet, then someone can hack into your computer. If you have the right software or know how to track down the hacker, then yes you can tell if someone has hacked in. You block by a firewall, but hackers always find their way through.

Yes he/she can. It can happen on any kind of network on which you are not alone, wireless or not, protected or not. But public hotspots where everyone is anonymous are the most likely places for hackers to experiment.
1. Get yourself protected. Use a firewall (windows XP firewall) or any other third party Internet security application.
2. Protect your communication. Use a secure VPN to connect to the Internet.
I used Soft Perfect firewall: (free) http://www.softperfect.com/products/firewall/ . I blocked all incoming and outgoing connections and only allowed VPN port to a few fixed IP numbers of VPN servers from ACE-VPN (small subscription fee) http://www.acevpn.com/ (knowledge of firewall rules is helpfull) This way no-one could (easily) access my computer and all traffic was encrypted (vpn)...

Someone can hack into your computer regardless if they really wanted to. I'm sure hackers have better things to do then waste there time trying to gain access to your or anyone else's personal computers, so I would not worry about it.

yes in britain recently there was a gang that went around hacking into home computers whilst driving through the streets.
not sure how to prevent this but there must be a way and to detect it.

no longer by capacity of basically having the computers related to the comparable community. maximum virus' assaults choose someone to click on something or acquire something to activate themselves. in case you do no longer attempt to share archives between the computers on the community, then you definately could desire to be superb.
