Hey, i've just recently bought a new computer from a friend and not knowing much about viruses and protection i plugged it straight into the internet and i started getting pop-ups from AntiVirus 2009 and windows security centre telling me i have viruses ect. but when i click clear it asks to buy it first of all i just want to ask how do i remove AntiVirus 2009 and Windows Security Centre because it is really annoying me because i cannot find it in remove programs and i cannot exit the program on my toolbar.

Secondly i downloaded AVG and cleared my computer of trojans and other unwanted threats then i still keep getting repeated pop ups from AV 2009 does anyone now of anymore protection i should download to my computer to make it more safe.

Thanks.

these are all free and will catch 95 % of what u have

if i choose to use a rootkit app dont use sophos it will not let u restore any missing registry entries it deletes so use another one

First of all Antivirus 2009 is becoming a pest and it seems that one of a several programs that can remove it fully, and for free is Malware Bytes! (Virus scanner, if you want to use scheduled scanning you have to pay!)

I hate viruses a lot and a good firewall that has helped me is called COMODO. It may get slightly annoying at times, but it is very fast and doesn't take up hardly any RAM! ( I put it on my Dad's 6 year old PC and it runs fast!).

I use McAfee for anti virus, my PC came with a subscription so I'm not sure of any good anti virus, I once tried Sophos, It is amazing but if you have purchased a user name for updates it can make you PC lag slightly.

Kapersky anti virus is amazing but costs.

But before you do anything, cut off the internet on your PC and use malware bytes to get rid of Antivirus 2009! NOW!

First off, I would never use a system that has not been completely reformatted. You would never know what the heck is on that system, up to and including a keylogger (accidental or intentional from your 'friend').

Not a system restore, but a formatted re-install of the OS. Buy a Windows OS disk if you have to, but that is the only certain way.

Any and all work to do security steps and measures will always be uncertain about the baseline system itself.

some friend to sell you a computer full of malware anyhow, does it have a recovery partition or are you planning on trying to clean up that mess? you cant remove windows security center at least not very easily unless say you uninstall a service pack and a lot of those are not uninstallable. security center came with SP2 I highly doubt you can uninstall it.

Your computer is infected with rogue software. Download and run rogue antispyware removal tool from http://www.spywaregeeks.com to remove the rogue software from the computer.
