Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

What are your system specs? That information is necessary to advise you about possible hardware solutions such RAM upgrades. Post it here if you have it.

Leaving hardware out of this, and assuming your hardware (eg RAM ) is not faulty, do the following once, preferably in this order

[This is for Win XP/Vista]

-Run a thorough virus scan. A good *free* anti-virus is Grisoft's AVG. Otherwise, the best anti-virus is Kaspersky, no question about it. But it's not free. Make sure the scanning engine and virus definitions files are up to date (or update as necessary).

-Run a thorough spyware/malware scan with Spybot Search & Destroy. Make sure the definitions file is up to date (or update as necessary).

-Run disk cleanup on your hard drive with Ccleaner (a free tool). This will remove junk and temp files that are useless yet hog space on the harddrive. You can also empty the browser caches and windows customizations with this if you wish.

-Run chkdsk /f once at the command prompt once to ensure that there are no file system errors. This should be done once before a defrag, if you haven't defragged in a long time.

-Lastly do a thorough disk defrag to optimize the drive. This will rearrange bits and pieces of files that are scattered around the drive into a contiguous unit. File read/write will be much faster. I'd suggest you use Diskeeper Pro to defrag since it does a great job. Also, with Diskeeper, you can do a boot-time defrag to defragment the paging file and Master File Table (MFT). There are 30 day trial versions at www.diskeeper.com so you can down load those.

Hi,

There are many factors which could slow your computer down. Lets look at a few.

1. Your hard disk space is filling up.

-This could lead to ineffeciency on your computer. If possible, clean out stuff you dont need and try to keep 15% of your disk clear.

eg, if you have a 80GB hard drive, try to keep about 19GB of space free.

Just remember not to clear system files.

2. You could be infected with spyware.

-If so, use your anti-virus software to clear it out for you.

Try http://www.avast.com/

or http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

They are both free

3. Defrag

-Degfragmentation of your hard drive is rearranging files and memory so that it is more easier to access these files. Don't worry, its not that bad, you wont notice anything different except that it runs a tad faster after you've done it.

Assuming you use Windows XP

Go to;

My Computer --> 'Right click' on your C: drive and click properties. --> On the tabs above, click "Tools" --> click "defrag now" and follow the instructions.

Good luck

AVG free is by far the best anti virus software out - its open source. updated regularly and it doesn't take up a lot of system resources like Norton or Adapteq. that is also a reason that your computer might run slow. You could also upgrade your memory it will help. you could also upgrade your Processor. There are great deals at Outpost.com or Visit your local Fry's Electronic Store.

It is windows, like any OS it has a thing known as System Decay. The more hooks,.dlls, mse's and whatever programs that you run and then delete or that delete stuff not approved by MS/Mac, (same company now) will slow the system down.

Backup Critical Data,Reformat, Clean Install and it might work faster, if not then it is Hardware, faulty Drive or CPU lagging.

In my opinion, Nortons & McAfee put out the 2 best antivirus engines. If you feel like a free a/v will work for you, then AVG is a good one. But remember what they say about free.....you get what you pay for.

If your computer is running slow, try cleaning your temporary internet files/cookies/cache. And then defragment your hard drive. If you spend alot of time opening files, closing, opening... files get fragmented, which in turn makes your computer work harder (slower) trying to recompile the files each time you re-open them. Depending on size of your hard drive it could take several hours for defrag to run. Start it at night or at a time when your not going to be using computer for a few hours.

To clean your temporary internet files/cookies/cache - In Internet Explorer click on Tools/Internet Options/Browing History - Delete - then Delete all.

To run Defrag, click Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter.

Good Luck
