How can I tell if there has been a spyware program loaded onto my laptop?

Question

My husband and I are separated and I suspect he has put some type of sypware on my laptop to monitor my emails, websites visited, etc. He is an IT director and of course very clever with computers, so I wouldn't be surprised if this laptop is being monitored.
How can I "look through" my laptop and discover any programs that will share my info with him? We are getting ready to file for divorce and I don't want him viewing emails with attorney, friends, etc.
Also, I don't want him to see the websites I'm visiting...partly because I don't want him to know how prepared I am to fight in court and I don't want him to view the online support group forums I'm using. Can he see what discussion boards I've posted on?
PLEASE help me figure out how to find and delete any programs that will violate my privacy.

The first free two program will tell you if your husband has installed a keylogger on your pc. I use all three and they are excellent free program. Just make sure you download the free versions. Best to perform a complete scan of your system.



If your husband has hacked into your pc, or has a hidden keylogger, this is a crime and you should report him to the police.



Antispyware I use three. You can only use one antivirus program or you will have serious conflict with your system.

Hi, no your information is still accessible with file recovery software even though you've deleted it. If he's put a keylogger on to the system it acts in "stealth" mode and most can also send email logs to a predefined email address that shows the entire record of what you've typed and the websites you have visited as well as providing screenshots.



Use a free anti-spyware program (spybot search and destroy mentioned above is excellent and fast). You may also want to use an encryption vault that is password protected and only you can access for any files that you may have - a good free one is:

It essentially hives off part of the harddrive space and encrypts any information that you put in there and cannot be opened unless you know the password.

Naturally make sure that you check for keyloggers/spyware first or if there is a keylogger it will record your password and email it to the target email address, if one has been set up.
