i think my laptop has a virus...please help me!?
2010-04-26 15:01:13 UTC
i have an acer aspire one laptop which has windows vista basic.
i had the free trial verson of i think it was avg anti virus. the other day it kept popping up and being really annoying and telling me i had 34 viruses or something but it said my trial had ran out or something so i just kept ignoring it. Now my computer won't let me open any programmes apart from internet explorer and comes up with a message saying 'windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item' it will let me open my files such as pictures.
can anyone tell me what to do as i don't know much about computers?
i'll award whoever deserves it best answer.
thanks in advance xx

Hey

atm im on work experience in a repair shop and this is mainly what im doing lol

you best bet is to go into safe mode

when you turn on your laptop and you see the wee bar going along keep pressing F8 it will bring up a list and pick SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING

now should get in alot handier

download Malware Bytes update this and run it this should remove a lot of stuff and also download and update Sybot Search & Destroy

i would then remove AVG or what ever virus programmes you have and download the new free version of AVG this is a good programme if kept up to date and if you keep running these other progs they should help protect you.

hope this helps :)

Ok if you have downloaded more than one virus protection trial it could pick up different software from the programs that could be viewed as a virus.

Since you have Windows Vista Basic your computer has NO chance of recovery with that amount of viruses as its the basic Windows system that has many errors.

Quickly get it to a computer repair shop it could cost from £50 - £70 and after they clean the system ask them to confirm its Virus FREE!

If you can' afford to go to the computer repair shop press F8 Or F12 on the computer as its Booting up, bring up the system restore menu and restore to an earlier date (make sure files are backed up). If it's still NOT clean or half clean bring up that menu again and Restore your PC to the Factory settings. It deletes everything and makes the computer as fresh as mint.

Some major viruses can hide in certain areas of your computer and if they have got into it then you cannot save your beloved PC unless you buy some high tech Spyware software and even then you will need to scan in Safe-Mode (F2 Select Safe mode).

I really do recommend taking it to the PC shop though.

Hope I didn't scare you to much, all the best, Good Luck!

in my view i might basically pass with paying for a working laptop or notebook. Getting roped right into a 2 3 hundred and sixty 5 days settlement for although lots funds a month does not somewhat attraction to me. in case you heavily isn't doing lots with it previous using the internet and different informal projects, you would be able to desire to actual %. up a working laptop or notebook for $3 hundred-4 hundred that would desire to nevertheless be somewhat good. That way in case you ever choose an improve or to do some thing else with it down the line, you have flexibility. i wouldn't in any respect recommend getting a working laptop or notebook on hire, yet i'm probably biased as through the reality that i'm consistently upgrading areas, and function thoroughly replaced each and every thing in my device over the process the final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. yet somewhat, do you choose to nevertheless be paying for a working laptop or notebook that would desire to o.k. be overpriced for the subsequent 2 years once you would be able to desire to get a working laptop or notebook that met your precise needs and budget and then be completed with it without spending lots? in case you at the instant are not doing any photograph modifying/gaming/action picture making/rendering, then you somewhat somewhat do not would desire to spend lots on a working laptop or notebook. some hundred dollars will do the activity and nevertheless get you a helpful device.

You're probably going to have to download a different security program or wipe your hard drive and start all over.

Try a security program, and see if it gets rid of the viruses. Your computer could already be damaged, and if it is. You're going to have to wipe the hard drive and restart the entire operating system and all that.
