From what u say u have a trogen not a virus and it has just added a small registry entry that blocks ur task manger.

well for starters it is easy to remove it all u have to do is

download 3

small files and run them.

As most of these kinds of malware works the same way these three if run one after another takes care of all possible infections

One more thing try using processexplorer instead of taskmanager which usually runs even when taskmanger is blocked.

These are the files (unzip them and run)

1) aimfix

2) cav

3) KLWK

these are anti malware tools to remove variants of the trogen

win32/ahkheap.a

U can get these and process explorer from here

http://dennyphilip.blogspot.com/2008/01/downloads.html

download and use process explorer and try to find suspicious

programs like an svchost.exe or smss.exe that has a FOLDER as their icon, or an avi file's icon (note svchost and smss are not malwares ,but malwares disguise as them to avoid detection by us.)

also look for programs that have double extensions like

mypicture.jpg.exe or some thing of that sort

the general format is like filename.extension.exe

find these process and right click on them and select kill process tree. to end them then run those three files again.

that should solve ur problem.

Glad i could help ;-)

Boot into safe mode (restart your computer and push F8 repeatability until the option come up) then run your virus scanner. This might take a while but it will help at least a little.

Try scanning with your antivirus program in safe mode or a online scanner.

Press "F8" upon boot-up.

Antivirus: BitDefender Online scanner - will scan and remove threats.

Anti adware/spyware: Ewido Online Scanner - will scan and remove threats.

once you have let it get this far (permission changes ect) it becomes increasingly difficult to eradicate the variant. the following steps will ensure your pc is not infected anymore.

get these free tools... adaware(lavasoft.com) spybot(safer-networking.org) HiJackThis(trend.com) winsockfix v1.2(majorgeeks.com) CCleaner (ccleaner.com)

install and run the adaware/spybot updater

disable restore

start-run-apps-accessories-sys... disk cleanup

reboot safe mode w/ networking (continually press f8 upon reboot)

Run adaware and spybot deleting anything they find.

Run Hijackthis (this shows all BHO's on ur browser~very important)

Run CCleaner (Repair/delete anything it finds)

Run free online scan (trend.com bitdefender.com pandasoftware.com) remove any findings

Run winsockfix v1.2

reboot

enable restore

you might also try these commands in your run box

start run cmd ~

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /renew

netsh int ip reset

regsvr32 softpub.dll

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

netsh winsock reset catalog

netsh interface ip delete arpcache

please note ::: using mozilla firefox with the following addons noscript noflash adblock (95% reduction in spyware/malware)
