There are free anti-virus scanners availble. They work well. I like AVG the best of all the free anti-virus programs.

If you are not willing to spend money it is good to have some kind of anti-virus software

If indeed you PC is brand new and you have been on the internet for only 2 days, don't waste the time it will take to try and get rid of all that bad stuff.

Just re-install the operating system. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

*Most computers that have been sold since 2004 have a procedure to reinstall the OS to a factory state, by using a combination of keyboard strokes on boot-up.

1. Make sure this time around that you go here:

http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us

to get all the Updates from Microsoft before surfing around the internet!

2. Make sure you have ONE (only one) Anti-Virus program providing real time protection, before surfing the internet!

3. Make sure you have at least 2, maybe 3 Anti-Spyware programs downloaded and ready to use every 2 or 3 days, should the need arise. (if you can get 8000 infections in 2 days, it WILL be needed!)

In this case, scan every 10 minutes.

---

Re-install your Operating System (maybe contact Tech. support from the computer Brand- DELL, HP,Toshiba...etc.)

If you aren't using an anti-virus program, you need one!

Get one free from here:

http://free.grisoft.com

Then run a couple of scans with an anti-spyware scanner...

These maybe:

Download, install, UPDATE and scan with the programs listed below. Remove (Quarantine) all items they find.

Keep the programs on the computer and use them often.

They are needed, but, only run when you start them. Always click the button to UPDATE before starting the scan.

Ad-Aware 2007 here:

Hope this helps.

Currently the most effective way to remove spyware and adware infections is to use one of the many spyware protective software programs.

A good anti spyware/adware program will do 3 things that will clean your computer and then keep it clean. It will scan your computer to discover where the problem is, then it will run through and completely remove spyware from your system and then it will run on your computer in the background, defending you against future spyware attacks.

You can free download antispyware 2007

http://www.antispyware2007.info which is an essential tool to keep your system free of dangerous spywares, protecting your privacy and your PC. It is a cutting-edge anti-spyware solution. This revolutionary anti-spyware program was created by the industry's top spyware experts in order to protect your computer and your privacy, while ensuring optimal system performance. With the ability to locate, eliminate and prevent the widest range of spyware threats, it is able to offer its users a safe, spyware-free computing experience; and with it's convenient automatic update feature, It ensures continuous up-to-date protection.

It also works very well for me

Visit Microsoft Update and install the latest updates.

http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupd...

Then download and run AVAST 4 Home Edition Antivirus

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

It's crucial to keep your antivirus software current with the latest updates (usually called definition files) that help the tool identify and remove the latest threats.

In addition, not all antivirus tools are the same; if you find that the one you use isn't working to your satisfaction, you should do some research and try an alternative.

You can run some online (free) scans that will clean as well...

I had a similar problem and I got rid of the infection with a program someone here on yahoo answers recomended. Here is the link to the question I asked and the answer I got. Look at the best answer and it actually worked it was great.

https://answersrip.com/question/index?qid=20060810153741AAx9R6D

Follow the instructions you might need to run the program in safe mode. I really recommend you use this software if in fact what you have is Spyware.

You need to use your anti-virus software to scan and remove the viruses on your computer. If you do not have one, try AVG anti-virus.

For spyware, you can use SpySweeper software. You may need to purchase some of these anti-spyware software after their trial ends.

Or you have the option to reformat and reinstall your Operating System to wipe clean your hard drive, esp viruses. Since your computer is brand new, you may not have a lot of files, but you can backup them up anyway.

Sounds like you need alot of security patches. Go to update.microsoft.com and make sure you have all the High-priority downloads installed. If you don't download them immediately as your computer is at risk. Then download AVG and scan your computer for viruses. Go to free.grisoft.com to download this program.

You should also go to lavasoft.com and download the free version of their Antispyware program.

You need to make sure you have Windows service pack 2 also. This is VERY important.

By the way, How do you know you have 8000 viruses. I am nearly positive that your computer would be dead if it had that many viruses. No pun intended.
?
2007-11-02 21:15:06 UTC
8000? Really that many? Is a pop-up stating that? If so, first, do NOT respond to that pop-up for help -- it's one of the bad guys, not the good guys.

Second, it sounds like you don't have any defenses, so here are three core elements:

Ad-Aware SE (free): http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Spybot S & D (free): http://www.spybot.com/

AVG anti-virus (free): http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5/

I suggest you get all of them, install them, update them and run them regularly. If any of them don't seem to be able to get rid of everything it reports finding, try running it again, this time in Safe Mode. Safe Mode often prevents the malware from running and protecting itself.

Also, turn off System Restore to evict any copies of bad stuff that might be lurking there.

To get into Safe Mode:

1.Log out and reboot your machine.

2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.

3.Select Safe Mode from the resulting menu.

4.The machine will continue booting, but the Windows desktop will look different. You won't be able to see the Internet, for instance. Log in as Administrator. Administrator often has no password.

5.When you're finished, log out and reboot back into normal mode.

Good luck, and don't panic.

I like lollipops. Teach her to stitch and ship her on a 'discipline go back and forth' to Pakistan for a well garment employee history. She can begin a manufacturing facility and reside as an expatriot, sending us instances of t-shirts to brighten with puffy glue. That's wherein the money is. She'll have earned that scooter very quickly. Good good fortune.

It is best if you reset your computer , most new store bought computers you can reset the way it came from the factory. and this will wipe everything and be much quicker then trying to clean it. then before you go on the internet go to the store and buy a program an antivirus suite /anti spyware. do not download a program from the internet since you get into to much trouble.

You have 8000 viruses. What you need is Antivirus and Antispyware software not spyware.

I would recommend for antivirus Avast! 4.7 Home Edition http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html (it also detects some spyware).

For your situation I would recommend you use 2 different antispyware software because 1 spyware scanner can't detect exactly what other spyware scanners can detect

4000/day, must be a record.

If you really have 8000 viruses and not cookies and other harmless files you will need to reformat and reinstall Windows.

OS Reinstallation vs. Virus Removal

http://safecomputing.umn.edu/guides/rebuild_repair.html

In addition to the Windows firewall or other firewall you must have full time (active) virus protection and full time (active) spyware protection.

All the following programs are free.

===============================

Full Time (Active) Virus Protection

Run a full scan.

If you do not have active virus protection, install only one. All are excellent.

AVG Antivirus 7.5 Free Edition

Windows 98/Me/NT/2000/XP/Vista

http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5

http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10669237.html?tag=lst-0-1

or

Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition

Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/Vista

http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tg=dl-20&qt=Avira&tag=srch

---------------------------------------------------------

Full Time (Active) spyware protection

Run a full scan. If you do not have active spyware protection, install:

Windows Defender (Included with Vista) XP SP2, Vista

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

---------------------------------------------------------

Install the following four programs and run weekly or at least monthly. You need all four. They are not a substitute for full time spyware and virus protection. They will greatly increase your protection. Install and run now.

Ad-Aware SE Personal (update + full scan)

Windows 2000 (Pro and Server), Windows Server 2003, Windows XP (Home and Pro), Windows Vista (32-bit)

Note if a scan detects a problem but is unable to remove, start the computer in safe mode with the internet line disconnected and run a full scan.

In severe cases your system restore files will also be infected. In these cases you will need to turn off system restore to prevent malware hiding in the system restore files and reinfecting the computer during removal or during a future system restore. Turning off system restore deletes the system restore files.

Right click on "my computer"> Properties > System Restore Tab > Check box turn of system restore

After the malware is removed turn on system restore.
