can't view hidden files in my computer.. help?

i want to view the hidden files in my computer. i've tried the help button and it said that i should go to control panel and select display and appearance and then select tools and then folder options. the problem here is that when i go to display and appearance, i can't find the tools menu so i can;t access that folder options. what can i do? i also forgot the name of the hidden folders so i can't search them also. any help would be appreciated. 10 points if your advise works! :)

I'm just gonna assume you have Windows XP or Vista. Open My Computer. Click Tools at the top and then click Folder Options from the list. Click the view tab at the top. In the Advanced Settings windows find Hidden files and folders and click the circle next to Show hidden files and folders.
