This happens when you install a new windows xp copy on other partition.

you can't access the files for the old users' profile , it happened me with me several time there is 3 options :

1 ) if you don't need the files , you can delete the whole folder document and settings , or select a user folder under it.

2 ) get a tool called NTFSDOS Professional and you can access your folders from Command Prompt and rename folders or even copy it to another directory this will make it accessible.

3 ) this is the best / easiest way : Get PartitionMagic 7.0 and convert your hard drive to Fat32 instead of NTFS [ this option doesn't format or change any programs ] then you will be able to access all folders since the security only applies for NTFS , when you finish convert it back to NTFS since its better for windows XP ..

if you deleted your harddrive partition with the xp installation cd

you shouldnt have any old data there...

but

you have two options.

go to safe mode and browse ur c drive

and from right lickcing and option you can pass over the privileges to any account

never used that tho

2nd opntion is take your hard drive out and install it as a slave ( secondary hard drive) in a another comptuer. and with same opttion you can gain privileges of any file and folder

i did that before

Hi, Always is better to make a fresh install of any OS. I mean, you need to format your hard drive and then install XP. That ensures you there is not going to be any problem, from previous installs. Good luck,

it could be you've not logged in with administrator privileges.

Also I think you need at least 2 accounts with administrator privileges before you delete another one. So that there is always an account with admin privileges.
