My computer is having problems and I was wondering if it was safe to run a registry cleaner. I have heard it is not safe ti mess with the registry. Also if I backup my registry to another file on my laptop in case something goes wrong when I use the registry cleaner does it stop working unless I go to the backup and start it? The one I am running is called RegCure Pro. Thanks

Registry cleaners don't really improve performance. That's because the registry is like a file cabinet with thousands of files in it, where each file belongs to a specific program. So whenever a program has to access a file, it still needs to be picked out of thousands of files, and it there isn't really an impact on performance if some of those files actually aren't needed by any program anymore.

At best a registry cleaner will simply remove unnecessary files, making the registry a little smaller. But that won't have any impact on performance or memory.

At worst it will screw up and remove info that was actually needed by some programs.

Overall they aren't worth using due to no real noticeable performance improvement and risk of problems.

Yes you can backup and restore your registry but it's simply not worth doing and also is risky.

NO!

I advise not to use any registry cleaner as there have been reports of them clearing out needed registry entries and messing up PCs. In addition, what they do clean up is so small that little or no advantages are noticed.

Modifying registry keys incorrectly can cause Windows instability, or make Windows unbootable. No registry cleaner is completely safe and the potential is ever present to cause more problems than they claim to fix.

Registry cleaners cannot distinguish between good and bad. If you run a registry cleaner, it will delete all those keys which are obsolete and sitting idle; but in reality, those keys may well be needed by some programs or windows at a later time.

PS: I can not count the times that I have helped those who though that registry cleaners were the answer to their problem. Many resulted in reinstalls due to the corruption they had caused.

Running a registry cleaner doesn't solve all problems. You need to work out what caused the problem then decide how to fix it!

Generally if you back up first and have a restore option in place they're fine. If you don't understand what's being detected and deleted try Wise Registry Cleaner and set it to only show "safe to delete" entries.

I mess about with the registry a lot and have applied tons of tweaks and fixed problems where registry entries were left behind by uninstalling software.

It's true that deleting something without knowing what it is could leave you with a broken system.

Always back up your registry (and ideally your Windows partition) before going ahead.

Unlike any other registry cleaners, Auslogics Registry Cleaner doesn’t attempt to find as many issues as possible. It simplest scans riskless registry categories by way of default. Newbie users must use default settings. Nonetheless, developed customers can choose extra classes to scan for problems with larger risk level. Notice. If you are no longer definite which categories to scan, with no trouble proper-click on the registry categories record (left column of the application's establishing page) and select "determine safe only" from the drop-down menu. And yes, it's relatively free, there aren't any hidden bills, no viruses, no spyware and adware.

I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The best PC cleaner and antivirus program is PC Health Boost, it's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate.

It's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Download it here for free: http://www.pchealthboost.link
