I'm setting up a website for my consultancy, the website will just have a bit of info on my, my work, maybe a blog and my contact details. I'm just buying a domain name online for this and a website - do I need an SSL certificate for this?
Thanks for reading my question

If you don't need people to trust the connection to your web site, then you don't need an SSL certificate. If you don't have passwords (like Facebook does) or don't take credit cards (like Amazon and PayPal do), then you don't need an SSL certificate.

Hi,
SSL is a protocol that establishes a secure transmission of data between the viewer of your website, and where it is hosted, i.e. the server. This secure transmission lines cannot be hacked by any hacker to gain details of what the user is viewing or what information he is passing on to your website.
As it is evident, SSL would be useful only when you are collecting personal information of the user on your website, such as credit card details, email address,or any other personally-identifiable data.
Since yours is only an informational website that doesn't collect any sensitive data or transmit any sensitive data, you would not require an SSL certificate.
All the best!

You will need an SSL if your site has any kind of user interaction, if it's just an information/article website you do not need it.

You do not need SSL for your site. This is a security protocol.
