Question:
How can I get this guy to stop calling me?

Can someone help? I keep getting a call from a guy who says I was randomly selected to receive a free government grant - as long as I opened a new account & deposited $200. The call appeared to be from Washington. Odd - he has an Asian accent. My question isn't IF this is a scam, but how to get him to STOP calling. I've told him not to call & put my phone # on the Do Not Call list but he keeps calling. It's especially bothersome when I'm expecting important calls. Posting this question on forums does no good because I get a bunch of replies from people saying they have the same problem, but they don't offer a solution.

Blocking the phone number may work but these scammers are tricky, and may call you from a different number. So blocking might not be an end all solution. Honestly it is best to just not answer any calls if you don't recognize the number. For those important callers they WILL leave a message, and you can call them right back. The scammers will eventually move on, they will only keep calling if they think they can get you...

Hope this helps, and that they stop bugging you!

Your best bet is to ignore this caller as well as any other callers you're unfamiliar with. Get and use "Caller ID" to know who may be calling. Caller ID isn't perfect because some scammers port their phone number to a popular business in your area to get around a Caller ID connection. If that happens just ignore them, lay the phone down and do whatever you were doing when they interrupted your day. They'll soon quit calling your number. The reason nothing can be done is because this person probably isn't even in the United States. Probably somewhere overseas where the authorities can't touch them.

Do what I do, waste their time, keep them on the phone for as long as possible. A while back I got a call from "Microsoft Technical Support" telling me that I had viruses on my computer. Knowing that this was a scam call, I played along, making sure that they could hear me typing on my keyboard etc. I kept the bastard on the line for nearly an hour before I started asking for his supervisor because everything he suggested wasn't working and didn't know what he was talking about.

When the hour ticked over, I said that I knew this was a scam call, had trapped the number and reported them to the authorities, that was over three years ago - haven't had a call since

ANY call that is trying to sell you something or scam you, first of course he will tell you all of the B.S. he's got. QUICKLY Say: "Hold on" and raise your voice a little and say "Yes, and get another picture of that blood on the wall" , then in normal voice say " how do you know the victim and where are you calling from". Then quickly say, "never mind, we have already traced your number and your local police department will be there to ask you a few questions about the victim and thank you for your cooperation". After that, he will probably move out of where he is and request asylum from the U.S., Say all of this really fast so you can get to the "We've traced the call'. That will scare the s**t out of him enough he probably won't use a phone again(to answer or call).

If you don't recognize the caller ID, don't answer it. There are caller blocking features offered by your phone company, or even your phone itself.

There are also services such as Nomorobo that can automatically reject numbers from their scammer database.

There isn't much that can be done beyond this. The FTC has a complaint page, but it takes a lot of complaints to establish a clear pattern of abuse, along with occurrences of people actually being victimized (money or data stolen).

Solution:

Everytime he calls, as soon as he starts talking, tell him to hold on for a second you have to do something. Leave him on hold and never come back. He'll get the hint after a while. You could also play loud opera at him. That will almost guarantee he won't call back.

You made a mistake. When people give out phone numbers to strangers anyone can get a phone number, and then later on people can make make you regret what you have done.

I don't know if your number is listed anywhere, or you give your number to strangers, but either way this is a mistake.

If you don't want people to call you, then you ONLY give your number to a selected few people, and you don't keep your number listed ANYWHERE.

I recommend you change your number, and you take your time to think about what I said.

Okay well, tell him im not interested in you and stop calling me. I know it sounds rude but just be honest because in the long run it will be easier to deal with. And if you cant do it so blunt then set him up with another one of your friends you think would like him so he at least has someone to fall to lol. That's my best advice.

Tell him you are very interested and want to meet. Ask him to meet you in the bad part of town at some strange hour but be very enthusiastic and positive. Give really detailed instructions for where and when to meet. Then bail. If he calls again set up another sketchy place until he stops.

If you have a smart phone, then block the phone number with a blocker app. This is a scam. The government would not call you and tell you this. DON T send money, block them. I only answer calls that I know the number. If you don t answer those numbers that you don t know, if its important, they can leave a message. I have found that scammers don t leave a message. Have a great day and keep your hard earned money.

If you have an iphone you can block his number by going to his recent call, pressing the "i" button on the right hand side, scroll all the way down and press "block caller"

If you have an android phone you can block a caller by clicking on his contact, pressing the menu button- more button- add to black list

If you have a samsung phone you can block a caller by going to your contacts, then choosing either contacts or logs, select contact and then add to blacklist

1) get a new sim card (with a new number)

2) just keep him talking on the phone

Do whatever is necessary to keep him talking, but DONT give out any personal info

(I had a notepad with details of a competely fictional person and just gave them that to keep them talking)

The important thing is just to keep them on the line by convincing them you have bought their story.

The thing they hate is wasting all that time with you while they could be trying to con somebody else.

It is very simple, you have some alternatives like...

* Block number from your phone.

* Lodge a FIR against that number.

* Lodge a Complaint to your service provider.

Do any of it and feel happy

If any queries, Feel free to ask.

Look online for your phone carrier's instructions on blocking nuisance callers. This is definitely a scam call. Once you have successfully blocked them, when they dial your number they get a message telling them they're blocked, and your phone does not ring.

Hey I had the same problem too, the trick is to create a contact of the number, then every time he calls you, simply either press disconect or answer and leave it. (since he is the wone hosting the call, he is paying for the phone call)

I would trol him by every time he calls, play a recording of " thankyou for calling us. Press one for a customer" he will press the button and nothing will happen *giggle*

Ignore him or hang up on him. Very few really take you off the list but you can try talking to him and asking to ONLY speak to his manager then shut up and speak very firmly to the manager. Never say "yes" to anything with them, ever. Honestly, I must get 1-3 of those / day. Since I have a land line and no caller ID I just hang up!

The next time you see him call, pick up the phone and yell into it "okay, I'm done - but there's tons of blood splattered everywhere, what should I do?"

He should stop calling after that.

>TrueCaller is a good app if you have an iPhone, it identifies a large number of spam phone numbers and can help save you

>If he calls, put him on hold and say you will be right back (don't actually be right back)

>Learn the art of trolling and troll the living heck out of any spam callers, they'll get the message

Then, Grab another phone number. Buy a sim card (if ever) or tell your telecom company to change your phone number. The only problem is you should tell your contacts that you have change your phone number.

You should have something in your phone to block it. If that doesn't work, then go to the police station and ask for help.
