If I used a web proxy to play videos from a site with online series (like www.nbc.com) that are only available to us citizens, would that be a crime or something like that?I've heard that using online proxies isn't exactly legal, is that true?

Free proxy servers are almost universally run by hackers looking to steal your personal information and to plant malicious code on your computer. They win either way. They get to use your computer and IP address to run their hacks and spam through, with you to blame somewhere down the road or they steal your identity and make life miserable for you.

If they get lucky they get to do both to you.

There is a reason they are free. Bandwidth costs money and nobody gives it away for nothing.

It is legal. A lot of times it seems fishy because of who sets up and runs the proxies. Like the other fellow said, it can cause some security risks. You need to find a proxy hosted by a real company. Most likely you will have to pay a small fee, but it does give you the benefit of staying protected while watching your shows,

Using online proxy servers is not illegal, although it does create some security risks for you. Proxy servers are commonly used by ISPs, by big companies, and also by web servers (reverse proxying). Proxied traffic is perfectly legal.

The only problem is that you may violate the policies of the websites you try to visit (going through the proxy). The fact that your actions may be illegal is only because you are violating the policies of the website (which prohibits you from using up their bandwidth), and not because you're using a proxy server.

all of these sites work with youtube, myspace, and all the other sites you might be blocked from

be sure to use the urls with the https:// and not http:// at the beginning to keep them from getting blocked
