Recently my pendrive was used in some other computer and after that it shows presence of a new file named "autorun.inf" and now the image of the removable drive (i.e., the pendrive) has changed in "my computer" page. Earlier the image of the removable drive looked like a small tablet, now it looks like an open folder in "my computer" page. I cannot delete the file "autorun.inf" in usual way and I am getting a message saying that this is being used. My own antivirus is a bit old and is not updated due to lack of active internet connection. Is there any way I can still get rid of this .inf file without having active interconnection with my computer? What problem can this file create in future?

This is why the autorun feature should be disabled in windows. This has been a security issue for awhile.

Without autorun or autoplay being enabled in windows, you have no worries.

Disable the autorun feature in windows, plug in the pendrive and reformat it.

If you have already inserted the pendrive in the computer, whatever damage it was going to do, it has already done.

Run a virus/trojan scan and a malware(spyware) scan after you reformat your pendrive.

The autorun virus is already in your computer and the best way to get rid of it is through antivirus eg free AVG, Kasperskey, etc etc

However if you want to remove it manually from your pen drive

open command promt ie windows+R, then type cmd and enter

In your DOS screen type the drives letter eg N: (check from my computer, but dont open it) then press enter

Type as follows:

attrib autorun.inf -s -h -r

press enter

del autorun.inf

press enter

Usually it comes with the recycler virus so:

rmdir /s /q recycler

press enter

NB: It will only work in another computer without the autorun virus and before you open your drive in that computer. Otherwise it will copy itself right back if the comp is infected.

Don't go deleting random files or you'll munt ur pendrive!!!!

download AVG from "free.avg.com" and scan ur drive and it'll find some infected files so then clik delete them and then when u plug it bak in ur pc it will be normal again

the easiest way to get rid of this virus is to Format your pen-drive

but be care full before formatting, store your important files somewhere else.

Another way- install norton antivirus and scan your pendrive ,you can download norton antivirus from this page -
