I'm running Mac OSX so I can't check this for you, but I know I used to right click the icon and go to properties. Somewhere in there you can change the icon to whatever you want. I think this might have just been limited to certain things, though, like folders (you may not be able to change the icon for a program you didn't write). The icons on your desktop with the arrows are so that you can differentiate between a program/file and a desktop shortcut for a program/file. This is handy when deleting things. Obviously, deleting one of the icons with an arrow on it only deletes the shortcut to that item whereas deleting an icon without an arrow means you are deleting that actual file or program. So the short answer is . . . no. :(

use explorer

go to C:\Documents and Settings

under the user name or default user (whatever)

C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Desktop

the desktop folder, if you get the right user will show you all the

icons and files on your desktop

right click the one your interested in and go to properties

click on 'find target', that will show you where the file is

if it is on your desktop as a file you can delete it there

or follow the path to where the file is and delete it there

if you are sure you want to delete it

if your virus scanning program didn't find any virus' then don't automatically assume that if you don't know what it is that it's a virus

randomly deleting files that you don't think the PC needs is the best way (proved by user) to crash PCs

or go to www.winpatrol.com and download their free version and use it to watch your PC and gives you the the option to accept or reject any changes

See if it's installed in the add or remove programs and if it is try removing it....also try doing a search in my computer to see if you can find where it is installed...look in hidden files as well....put your cursor on the icon and type what it says into the search....run your anti virus and anti spy ware to see if it is a threat and as a last option type it as a search on the web to find details and info on how to remove it
