Does some virus which is able (someway) to damage hardware?

I have a real problem, My machine was infected by a virus(i don't remenber it's name), it (my PC) begans to restar everytime I was listen music. then I found Avast(antivirus) and it detect the virus, so with my permission the avast begans to delete the virus and some others infected files, and I don`t know if avast delete a system's file or the virus still survive, but the thing is that after that, my PC always restar without loading the operative system (windows XP).
Then i try to repair the system with an installation CD of win xp, and my PC boots form the CD but when it is still loading my machines restar again, then I try with a Knopix CD wich is a LINUX that can boot form the CD, but when it ti loading my machines reastar again, if I disconnect my hard drive and conect another totally new (in blank) hard drive and try to install windows XP form a new installation CD, my machine restart again.
I apreciate step by step suggestions and no just a LINK, but any advice is welcome

hi, perhaps you can try norton to remove the virus and protect your PC, but you need to pay for the software.



i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.



besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.



firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

Reseat all cards in your machine, including the RAM chips. Most likely you have a bad RAM stick.



Viruses cannot damage hardware.

The infection is still on your computer. Since you are unable to start up and scan for and remove it, you will need to reformat the computer.

It could have gotten into the BIOS maybe?

search for any diconnected cable or device(may be ram,fan)
