Most memory errors are due to memory chips or modules going bad, or being bad.
You can get a program that will test memory modules. The Ubuntu Linux CD has a memory test program on it, you just boot the computer with the CD, and it is not necessary at all to install Ubuntu
The same program is available on the Internet, called MemTest86+

You can download the ISO version and burn it to a CD and you will have a bootable CD that automatically runs the program.

Sometimes all you have to do is reseat the memory modules.
You simply remove a memory module, then re-install that memory module.
There are plenty of videos on YouTube explaining how to install memory modules, use

Unfortunately, I could not find a video on how to "re-seat" memory modules, so you have to just watch several different ones to get a good idea of how to do this.
