Question:
free computer anti virus/debugging that works?
2011-07-24 19:26:08 UTC
i have windows 7 and after letting my friend use my computer ONCE he completely destroyed my computer and internet with god knows how many viruses. i cant afford taking it in somewhere nor can i afford cleaner software, every time i look for a program, it just scans my computer and downloads programs onto my computer which makes everything worse then tells me i have to buy the software to clean the computer.

im so sick of all these viruses and malfunctions besides the fact that my security is almost non existent at this point.

can anybody please please let me know if there are any free programs that actually work and not just screw up my computer even worse?

and also if debugging my computer will do anything, can you tell me how to do it?

Please tell me the name of the 'anti-virus' that is being offered to you. It's actually a fake program that is trying to scare you that you have numerous infections when it itself is the infection. I need to know the name so I can give you the proper removal procedure as not all infections are the same.

Please give the details ASAP.

Edit: You can send me an email but you need to enable it in your profile. I need the name of that thing that pops up. The ones you've mentioned so far are not it. It's got to have a name like 'BlueFlare Antivirus', 'Total Protect', 'Zentom System Guard', 'System Repair', or something.

Meanwhile, that redirect problem is bundled with the infection but it can be removed by running TDSSKiller program from Kaspersky:

Edit: I've waited for an hour for the additional details that I was asking but you didn't come back. I may not be able to get back to this question. If you need further help, send me an email.

I've used Microsoft Security Essentials and it is really great. It has found a few rootkit viruses (the hardest to find). The free product from MS has actually suprised me and a few of my security colleagues in its abilities.

I reccomend you use AVG as an Anti-virus and Maleware Bytes as an Anti-trojan. Both are really great softwares and free! AVG may ask you to pay, but once you uninstall it, you'll have an option of downgrading your current version to the free version.
