I find with these you'll get answers based on preference of the person answering not necessarily what's true or what is actually the best. I would recommend Bit Defender bearing in mind I'm someone with IT background I program systems, websites and build computers and have been doing it for 5 years.

Bit Defender have been named number one in the AV range. It costs £30 for 3 PC's for a whole year and for that you get the whole system. Please do not download a free anti virus solution there is a lot of increase in "POTENTIAL" attacks and a free one wont cover you.

The reason I recommend it is because of what it can do for you its not just an anti virus its a PC maintenance solution.

Anti - Virus (Real time & on demand)

Firewall

Anti - hacking

Port scan detection

Network merge detection

Anti - fraud

Website scanning

Encryption on sensitive files and data what ever you choose.

Computer cleaning (HDD, Registry, browsers) etc

Anti - theft (It will also create your own account and you can track your device from any computer.)

The system offers so much for such little cost I don't see why anyone would choose different. I've been using it for years now and will never switch to another system.

However your choice so good luck

I have Microsoft Security Essential and paid version of Avast and Hitmanpro; why not pay these Anti Malware and anti-virus companies they don’t cost much and are trying to keep us safe.

Also there is cable going into the back of my computer, no WiFi for me and I don’t use an android phone and no internet banking.

Might seem backward but I have already been stung in the past and I ain't going down that road again and things are going to get worse. Trouble is companies like Amazon and Ebay should be putting money into Anti Malware and anti-virus companies, they certainly make enough profit and they will be hardest hit if people decide its all become to risky.

On my aunt's PC, I use MalwareBytes Pro and Deep Freeze Enterprise. The last one is probably overkill for you, so maybe something like MSE would work for you.

But definitely invest in MalwareBytes. It's $30 a year for three PC's, and with that, you get some of the most proactive malware, adware, and ransomware protection on the market. Definitely worth the money.

Edit:

I saw you are using Boot Camp. In that case, I definitely do not recommend Deep Freeze as it requires a separate partition for your Windows data, among your Mac and PC partitions.

I use a combination of Malwarebytes Anti Malware (free) and Avast anti virus (also free) to protect my computer. Both of these programs can run together without issue.

Malwarebytes will notify you if you come across a suspicious or malicious website, and will immediately quarantine anything downloaded or attached to your computer that you have not authorized. You can run a full system scan of your entire computer and malwarebytes will quarantine anything it deems suspicious or malicious - this program has never let me down.

Avast does the same as malwarebytes but for viruses, and will notify you if a webpage is doing suspicious things with your system. You can also pay money for a VPN service through avast, and roam the internet on a secure, encrypted connection - which in my opinion, is essential for keeping passwords safe to bank accounts, facebook accounts, ect. Even on password protected wifi you can be at risk, but a VPN puts that worry to rest. Avast has active firewalls with custom settings, as well as a sandbox to run any program that you are unsure of - without worrying about your system being effected.

Both of these programs working simultaneously make your computer a nightmare for malware/viruses.

Comodo Internet Security is a decent choice for average users.

It is very easy to set up and use and offers good coverage of the key malware threats .

It will also analyze unknown applications for suspicious behavior, and alert the user accordingly.

i spare nothing to pc protection why anyone would put mse or avg without using a custom install ( avg only ) is beyond me

i use kis pure 3.0 with mbam free

avast is only good or better than most when you pay for malwarebytes pro

worst of the worst free a/v

panda cloud , avg when not config right , zone alarm , mse -- bitdefender free has issues

why they won't clean or protect a infected computer ; but if your pc has never hit the web and clean these do work -but won't protect you long
