Bit of a long one this but.... here goes.

I have Threat-fire and Windows defender and have just run a registry cleaner.

I'm more concerned that there's something wrong with my PC than I am about the individual problems I'm getting...........

Have had a problem for a while with an error popping up something along the lines of "click cancel to abort the problem or click ok to debug the problem". On clicking either, the program closes (many programs are affected on a random basis). At first this was infrequent, but is now is on a regular basis, with the foremost being when I'm trying to log on (as a user of the PC), I'm ending up having to restart the PC 3-4 times to get past the error.

The second issue is when I'm using internet explorer; certain commands totally close the browser. Like clicking unsubscribe links on emails and more importantly during trying to erase cookies/browsing history through internet options; when I click "ok" the browser shuts down completely and doesn’t erase anything.

Also when I'm using google, instead of going to the result I’ve clicked on, I'm often redirected to a low budget random averting/ search site.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. X (before I throw the PC out the window lol)

Sounds to me like you've got spyware/adware on your system in addition to a hijacked browser, possibly trojan, etc. My advice to you is to back up everything you want to keep on another drive or a DVD and format + reinstall windows. That is the only way to make sure you've eliminated the threat(s).

If for some reason you can't or do not want to do this, try using Spybot - Search and Destory + Hijackthis! These are 2 great programs for cleaning up your pc from malicious third party software.

As stated above try running Malwarebytes

However

When you download it make sure you SAVE AS, and change the name otherwise whatever is causing the problem is likely to "block" it from working

Run a full scan once installed

If this doesnt solve your problem post a new question stating

"I have run malwarebytes but it didnt fix the redirects"

In this case i would advise installing the recovery Console and using Combofix, but ill tell you how if your problem isnt fixed

Hope all goes well!

did you get an antivirus program like norton, i have it its great and cheap too around $30 (i got it from costco lol)

if there is a problem you could always reformat your hard drive by using your recovery CD that came with your computer or going to your computers recovery center.

the thing with reformatting is that you lose all your files and your computer ends up being like it was from the first time you started it

if you are going to reformat than i strongly recommend you save any important files on an external

or if you have vista there is a feature like a time machine which takes your computer back to a state before an update. i dont know much about youll have to do a little research

first on the list

download mozilla firefox

firefox doesnt run on active x, lessening ur chance of attack

next download avira antivir

this program whenever you use something that is infected it will delete or heal the infection and it is freeee

ccleaner

im not saying u do but porn could b doing this and cookies may be the problem. ccleaner deletes all ur cookies and stuff, deleting possilbe attacks and malware and giving u more space in ur harddrive

and i dont know what else to do without it being free

A new breed of trojans hijacks computers and re-directs search results away from Google, Yahoo and MSN to rogue websites where more trouble awaits. You need to update your antivirus and run a full scan to remove the infection. Note that these new trojans may have already disabled your existing antivirus, so if all else fails I suggest that you run a SpyNoMore scan from the link below:

Use the recovery disc that came with your pc or system recovery on your hard drive. With disc, commands at the screen that pops up when you first turn your computer on tell what to do. Make sure you recover destructively. you lose all of your data but viruses are bye-bye. There really is no virus protection that can remove things like this. I know. This happend to me 7 times.
