Question:
Is anyone else using a Linux Distribution of some kind to get away from malware?

Seems like if your a Windows or Mac user. The exploits are so aggressive they lock up or even bypass the sandbox. I don't know how they mastered that. Sandboxie has a bug where you can do a buffer overflow and another where you can somewhat run executable code. I wrote an exploit that shuts down the computer and it bypassed Comodo's sandbox and Koisk program one time. Bypassing UAC with an FTP server is even easier. All you have to do is alter the executable or make it a little differently and it will modify files on the filesystem. Deepfreeze is also good. But some people forget to sandbox and end up infecting their computer. Some people don't know what software is safe for their OS. That's why I use Linux and its trusted repository. Repositories and true permissions (apparmor/selinux) make the better out of an os. I also have an offline Linux machine. If there's still exploits to DOS and evade sandboxes then why not use Linux. I reccomend ordering Deepfreeze as a WIndows user. You can also just go online on a Linux Live CD.
They've got the Live CD's with scripts disabled by default to be sure your safe.

Been using Unix or other Multics-spinoff OS since 1975 and have never had malware on them.

The first time I let a "friend" use my Windozer about 12 years ago it got infected. He downloaded stuff I was "missing."

Using Linux (and no MS stuff) now. Very happy. Command line is essentially unchanged from Unix of 40 years ago. I don't even feel like I'm getting old!

Changed in 2007 from XP to openSUSE Gnome, was amazed at how little time have needed spend to fix things on linux ;-)

Content that everything was freely available.

Admit only real cost was surprisingly short time needed to adjust to for self the very new linux way of doing things, this really clarified how much time and money previously wasted using MS-W over the years.

BTW am a NON-Technical user... though apparently know enough to help a few others ;-)

Am still mostly using openSUSE Gnome, though regularly use puppylinux and try other linux versions on other machines.

Malware is only one of many reasons why I use Linux. With Windows you need anti-virus, anti-malware, and Windows itself needs constant updates.

I've been using Linux for ten years, and I've never used a firewall or any type of anti-virus.

FWIW, the distro of my choice is Slackware.

Yeah, I dumped Windows around eight years ago and have not looked back. I became tired of maintaining the Anti-maleware software and fragmentations and all the other bs.

I am currently using Linux Mint 17.2; however, I am most likely going to be installing Fedora in the near future on a 3D V-NAND SSD. I am waiting for Wayland to become the default display server.
