why do some websites ask you to type what you see or solve math problems and say we need to know you are human?

I went to dub happy and it asked me to do math so they know I'm human. I also went to urban rivals and it asked me to type what I see for the same thing.
why do they do this?! is it some kind of joke?

Wright. There are programs especially developed for hackers that can run thousand of mails, answers on a minute so most of the websites use this Captcha system to prevent that the answer/inscription comes from a program or non-human.

These are called captcha
Not everyone in the the internet is human. Some are bots. Bots are programs desinged to do a specific task, like, create 90000000000 email addresses a day. To prevent these, websites created some random tests to make sure that you are human, not some bot trying to over run the server.

It's to keep the bots of the site.........that want only individuals....not robots.........
