I'm trying too figure out what's wrong with my ip address. When I go into run and use the cmd prompt, I get an error message saying "the dhcp client has obtained an IP address that is already in use on the network. The local interface will be disabled until the dhcp client can obtainva news address."

What does this mean? I'm at a dead end here an I can't use internet in my house...both my laptop and PC has this problem.

Help!!

try system restore to a earlier date.if that does not wprk, turn your computer completely off,and your modem or router, put your compueter on first, wait 15-30 seconds put on your router or mosem. If that does not work turn your compuer off, than back-on,hold down f8.when it shows go up with the erarrow to last known place were it work,click-on,do not use your mouse to do this use the arrows on the key-board,and press enter.good luck.

This is the behavior when a duplicate IP is detected. Windows removes the address assignment (0.0.0.0). It doesn't try to pull another address via DHCP, alternate config, or automatic. User intervention is required.

The DHCP client has obtained an IP address that is already in use on the network

Symptom: When trying to renew IP, you may get this error "An error occurred while renewing the interface Local Area Connection: The DHCP client has obtained an IP address that is already in use on the network. The local interface will be disabled until the DHCP client can obtain a new address."

Resolution: 1. Release and the renew it.

2. Clean the internal DNS and WINS records.

Refer to case 083104LR

Try this method.

1. Unplug the router

2. Shutdown the PCs

3. Restore power to the router

4. Restore power to the PC with the conflict. It should now be able to

pull the address from the router.

5. Restore power to the other PCs. If one of them had an old lease that

was causing the conflict, the renewal request will be denied and it will be

able to pull a new IP.

The easiest thing that I've found to troubleshoot this is a new network adaptor. They're about $15 almost anywhere you look - and they save endless aggravation while trying to figure it out.

Not really sure but first I must assume that you have either DSL or Cable and you also have a router. my guess is that someone has messed with your router settings. Suggest you get out the user guide or download the user guide from the maker's website for your specific model. Then press the reset button with a paper clip for 30 seconds. Follow the step by steps to set it up again.

goto command and type in "ipconfig /renew" without quotations and hit enter, then "ipconfig /release" and enter again
