I don't mean do they up date the definitions, but the actual "antivirus" model/engine itself?
Just wondering if the Nortons and the McAfees unecessarily update every year, to sell more product. like is there really that much of a significant difference between Norton 2008 product and 2010 product, as long as you keep your virus defs and worm defs up to date

No, there is not a significant difference between them virus-wise. The the free ones often come out with new versions, if you have automatic update on it should update them for you.

AVG is crap. Avira and Avast are pretty good, though. Don't put McAfee on any computer! It is the biggest resource hog ever!

retaining Norton is as much as you, i in my opinion hate Norton because of the fact I used it an prolonged time in the past and my notebook became contaminated and Norton by no skill chanced on the an infection and it became a equipment hog. in case you do Uninstall Norton you extra valuable use a particular removing gadget to do it different sensible Norton will pass away a at the back of **** load of archives on your notebook and this could reason conflict for you sooner or later in case you ever come to a call to place in yet another Anti-Virus application. attempt those classes Kaspersky internet Security2009 Bitdefender NOD32 kind Micro internet protection professional McAfee Anti Virus AVIRA paid version Avast Paid version P.S do no longer pay attention to shrikebi he's basically been fortunate so for and is play Russian roulette finally the Virus bullet will arise and hit his unfavorable notebook confusing.

There are periodic improvements in the engine. Visit AVG or AVAST's site and look at version history.

Both are fine, but no one AV is perfect.

Norton is badly bloated.
