Every time I try to do something online, there is always a problem with the certificate or whatever that is. I can't login to Live Messenger, can't install iTunes so I can't update my Ipod, can't download skype because of the so called "certificate errors". How do I get rid of this problem??? My laptop is new, and I dunno what happened but it had virus and problems. So I removed the Vista and changed it Windows 7. Please help.

Most common problem:

Right click tray time> "Adjust..."> Update.

While here, tick 'Automatic synchronize...'

Another situation:

"On board" certificates not current.

Vista/Win7: Go to your "Windows update" in IE8

For XP: IE8> Security > Windows Update.

When @ Microsoft Updates, click the 'Custom' button, not the 'Express'.

This will give you hardware & software updates specific to your unit (hence the necessity to allow the 'Active X'). Includes specific drivers & "Root Certificates".

["Express" and "Automatic Updates" only gives Windows operating system updates]

the registry of your operating system needs to clean, This type of problem occurs when registry is overloaded with irrelevant information and corrupted files so it is necessary to clean and fix the errors, this can be done manually but depends if you have some know how to sort out the corrupted files, or use PC optimizer registry repairer software like Reginout

Check your Date and Time.

Certificates are only valid for a certain date and time.

If your time and date is wrong, put it right.

It is possible that the CMOS battery has given up. It is this that holds the time when your computer is switched off. If your time goes wrong if you switch off your computer, wait a while and then switch it on, then the battery is dead. It is a simple job to replace it.
