If you don't mind installing a toolbar I would give the google ( http://toolbar.google.com ) or Yahoo ( http://toolbar.yahoo.com ) toolbars a try. The built in popup blockers work well plus you get the bonus of the other features these toolbars offer, such as easy access to searching without leaving the page your on.

Personally I would suggest switching your browser to the Firefox web browser by Mozilla ( http://www.mozilla.com ). It's an excellent browser with many features that fill in where IE leaves off. It's also an easy switch from IE ... meaning there is a small learning curve so it shouldn't be hard to learn the new software.

I hope this helps!

You can try stiffening the pop-up exceptions, but I would try Mozilla Firefox. I switched over from IE a few months ago and I'm much, much happier with it. Check out www.mozilla.org

Every browser has a built in pop up blocker

Internet Explorer :

Tools > Pop up blocker > turn on

Firefox:

Tools > Options> Content > Check "block pop up windows"

Opera > Tools > Quick preferences > block unwanted pop ups

If you still get more than two or three pop ups per day, you have malware installed that must be removed. If you follow all the following steps it should get rid of your problem and prevent future problems. All programs listed are free.

Note if a scan detects a problem but is unable to remove, start the computer in safe mode with the internet line disconnected and run a full scan.

In severe cases your system restore files will also be infected. In these cases you will need to turn off system restore to prevent malware hiding in the system restore files and reinfecting the computer during removal or during a future system restore. Turning off system restore deletes the system restore files.

Right click on "my computer"> Properties > System Restore Tab > Check box turn off system restore

After the malware is removed turn on system restore.
