I have a virus on my dell l502x laptop. This virus won't let me use the laptop in safe mode or any thing.

So far I have downloaded kaspersky rescue 10 to a cd but although the cd works and detect virus but the problem am having is that the cd does not contain the window unlocker for me to be able to unlock the laptop. I have followed the instruction and in total I have kaspersky rescue 10 downloaded to 10 cd-r as I thought may am doing some thing wrong or downloading the wrong version but even the lastest version I down loaded doesn't have the window unlocker utility.

Now, my plan ( B) of sorting out my virus issues is to remove the hard drive and replace it with a new hard drive. My question is, would replacing the hard drive sort out my issues.

Instead of replacing the hard drive, is it possible to reformat the current hard drive to get the laptop working again.

Any other suggestions welcome.

Thank you.

There is no need to purchase a new hard drive. Firstly all Dells have a recovery partition.

You must press before the Windows logo appears on the screen. If you press after the Windows logo appears on the screen, the Advanced Boot Options menu will not appear on the screen. If you do not see the Advanced Boot Options menu, restart the computer, and then repeat this step until you see the menu on the screen.

3 Press the on the keyboard to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press .

4 Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next.

5 Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.

6 Click Dell Factory Image Restore.

7 In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.

8 Click to select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition check box.

If you cannot access the advanced menu, you will need the recovery discs, if you have no discs you can purchase them from dell.

If you take your laptop to a shop they will do it for you, they will remove and cure your hard drive and then put it back in

When you turn on your laptop pay attention to the boot screen. One of the keys should say boot options or recovery mode. Press the key that is shown, and follow the recovery steps. It will bring your laptop back to its original image. Good Luck!

I would suggest is to get HBCD ...

You boot into mini windows XP mode, recover your files to an external HDD, and then reformat and install windows on yor current laptop, no need to buy another HDD for your laptop.
