Most web-pages will not open (either just won't load and stays white or in some cases shows "unable to display web page"). My first guess was my firewall, but even with this turned off entirely it still won't sort the problem. It's not a connection failure because some pages work fine (this one for example) And some work in part (like ebay, where I can access the homepage) but nothing else!

There are several factors that could be causing this.

The first is your router, if you have one. Try plugging your computer directly into the dsl or cable modem. If that solved the problem, either upgrade the firmware on the router, or if that is too hard for you, get a new router.

The second, is some antivirus/firewall programs, even when turned off, cause you to lose access to some websites and the internet. I wold recommend completely uninstalling all your firewall/antivirus programs for a few minutes and seeing if that fixes the problem. You can download free antivirus from our website.

The third is you may have some spyware that has broken your pc and causing this.

Use microsoft's windows defender and our free tools to try to remove it.

Geeksmobileusa gave a nice list of things to try. I just wanted to add that if the problem seems to be the router, most of the time there is an option to reset the router to factory (default) settings through either the web-based admin console or by pressing a reset button down for around 30 seconds (most routers I have seen have a reset button somewhere. It is usually recessed and you'll have to use a pen or something else with a small tip to be able to press it). Good luck!
