I am using the free trial of AVG and i did a computer scan. It shows I have several trojan viruses and all it does is move it to the vault. It shows the source from where the virus is but when i go there..there is nothing there. I've even changed the folder settings to show hidden files and folders but still nothing there so how can I delete the viruses coz atm I am getting very annoying alerts saying I have a security problem. I downloaded this program by accident which put the viruses in my computer but yet i cannot find it when I go to Add/remove programs.HELPP!!

ur computer is already safe... when avg moves it to the virus vault, it is already moved to an actual virus vault so it can no longer harm ur computer so, you will not see the infected file in the source because it has been moved... if you doubt there is still a virus in your computer, try scanning it again and agian.. it will eventually detect it if there is any

If you are getting new trojan viruses you do not have an effective firewall. You are probably getting these from websites rather than from files or mail.

The problem with all these safeguards you install are they will slow down your computer a lot so you really need to get a single package that does everything.

The free AVG only does antivirus as I recall so you really should go for the payable version to get the full package. AVG should do the job.

In my experience the best (and little known) package as used by the police an others is F-Secure. The other mainstream packagers such as Kaspersky, Norton, McAffee etc are expensive and very heavy in my experience.

In the short term turn on the Windows firewall and instaqll any Windows updates, but only after making sure you have created a restore point so you can go back to where you started as updates are not always improvements!

They should call anti-virus programs actually virus alert programs. They are great at alerting you that you have a virus but when it states it has removed it or quarantined it, it hasn't. Especially with worms that move throughout the computer and cause all sorts of havoc and pop-ups. Here is the solution.

1. Reboot computer and hit F8 and start in Safe Mode with Networking.

2. Go to http://www.malwarebytes.org/index.php and download the software.

3. Start Malwarebytes program and click on Updates.

4. Run a complete scan of your computer. This will take a little while depending on your big your hard drive is and how much you have on it.

5. When Malwarebytes is done click on Results and then click on Remove.

6. Malwarebytes will generate a report afterwards.

7. Close program and reboot your computer.

Keep in mind Malwarebytes does not automatically update so before running a scan make sure to do the updates.

when you walk into Avg download, it can be confusing.. there is a free download there that does not have a trial.. here's what i would do, click start, click all files and folders, type in the program name that you are looking for 2 remove. wait till all folders with that name is on and then click delete.. if there is a folder there that is needed 4 your comp, it will tell you not 2 delete.. but yes the viruses are safe in the vault.. i would also delete the files of AVG and download the all free AVG.. put your trust in AVG.. it's pretty good.. i also have spybot.com as a side kick, thats free.. never run 2 virus scan at the sametime.. need anymore help, just ask : )

Sad to say.

In my opinion, the free-ware or trail-ware for AVG or any Anti-virus software doesn't really help much when it comes in detecting viruses, ad-wares, mal-ware, spywares or trojans. Not all were detected and some of them are good in disguising as one of the OS system/programs and cannot be cleared. There are still many flaws and loopholes in the security system, but nonetheless, it is best to have one.

Purchase a full version or the Anti-virus software, may it be Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky or AVG. These are the most popular choices and, try not to purchase any unknown anti-virus software from an unknown site, unless you wanna have your identity stolen.

My recommened choice would be, in-order; Norton 360 or Norton Internet Security or McAfee.

(mine is first and it is a full/multiple "free" version)

AVG Free is not a scam. The program is, indeed, free for as long as you wish to use it. In fact, even their Free Edition is a better anti-virus program than many of the "mainstream" programs like Norton and McAfee that you pay for off the shelf. I've been using AVG Free since the 7.x version, and I've had no issues and never paid anything for it (AVG is currently on the 9.x versions) In regards to your problem, it sounds like the AVG plugin is causing issues with your browser. I'd suggest finding where you browser stores it's plugins (for example, with Firefox it's under Tools > Add-ons) and disable the AVG plugin, since that is separate from the typical AVG install.

Last time I had a virus (Antivirus 2008, it was a swine to get rid of) it was suggested to me by someone on Y/A I download Malwarebytes free edition to use with AVG.It worked & I still do a scan with it every so often to make sure AVG hasn't missed anything.

If your free trial is not over, try to quarantine the virus. If you cannot do it, buy the original versions of antivirus softwares. I recommend Norton, McAfee, Karpesky or AVG.

I uninstalled AVG and went back to my original idea of first downloading Zone Alarm as BTInternet Norton is rubbish. Then i downloaded AdAware, and finally Cleanup or CCleaner. It all seems to have worked for me.
