Which one should i buy today for my laptop?
I have no security on my laptop so i thought its best to buy something, but i cant decide which on i need to buy, Norton Internet Security or the Anti Virus. I dont use any music downloaders (limewire) etc i simply just use MSN and the Internet.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi, for the safety and smooth running of your laptop do not install any anti virus or internet security try to deep freeze your system or your drive C.

I recommend getting Internet Security with what you have. When your subscription ends for your 2007 products (and if you still want to use Norton Internet Security and the Norton Systemworks product), then get the latest version of Norton 360 which has the features of Norton Internet Security and Systemworks (basic version I believe).

If you're connecting to the net without any protection apart from the Windows firewall you need to get sorted p.d.q.

I wouldn't use Norton. Although Norton 2009 is a lot better than previous versions there's a lot of people on YA! trying to get rid of Trojan.Brisv.A!inf - seems Norton can find it but not remove it. Not very good.

I'd go for a suite rather than just an AV if you're fairly new to computers but I'd suggest Kaspersky. Strong anti-malware (viruses, etc) protection and a strong two-way firewall, better than Norton. *Some* of the free stuff is *very* good but, if you're a newbie, KIS will be *far* easier for you and protect your new laptop better.

Free trial of Kasperky Internet Security

Edit: Avoid McAfee like the plague. Average protection against malware, useless firewall - see matousec tests above.

I wouldn't recommend Norton, but if I had to choose from these two I'd go with internet security. It would be better if you get Kaspersky internet security, Norton really slows down your computer, I hate it.

Personally I would never use Norton.......again. It is to much of a system hog, uses to many resources. Once you have it on your pc, it is very hard to get off.

These AV`s are all free and good. I prefer AVG, been using it for 3 years with no problem.

The free ones seem to be as good as or better than those you pay for.

Here are the ones I use:

Comodo Firewall (free version, not the trial version): http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Free AVG Anti-Virus: http://free.avg.com/

AdAware Anti-Spyware: http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

You might be interested in security suites that combine all those programs into one.

I use Eset Security, best on net. Do not think just browsing is safe, it most definitely is not.
