Good for you! There is a program called Net Nanny that can not only clean up your computer but block sites that you do not want. Install that and have someone else put in the administration password and not tell you what it is. This will keep you from being tempted to go back to your old ways. If you stick with this decision, you will be so happy.

Umm....pretty much not gonna happen. If you want a regular computer user to not see it that's one thing. If you want a computer technician to scope your computer and not be able to see that you looked at porn.....it's not gonna happen. You need some serious professional attention to completely do away with that stuff. So basically, be prepared to admit you have looked at porn, unless you can afford to hire an expert.

Don't forget to delete all that history in the tools/internet options section of MS Internet Explorer. Also right click on the bottom- most bar to get to the properties, then advanced tab, then clear. The scanning as another suggested is good, but get the .tmp files too. Also run a free scan like ca.com or panda.com for viruses. I found tons of junk doing this virus scan after an employee surfed naughty stuff. Imagine, he paid for it, and they delivered porn AND viruses. Nice people out there. Glad he didn't take down my network.

Oh, and don't forget if they use a file recovery software, then you got problems. Only shredder programs can kill that latent data.

Try your Windows Files Search Utility .....

Click > Start (lower left) > Search (on the menu) ...this will automatically open the windows Search utility.

For Files search use these file extensions one at a time and check out your results for what you want to delete...

Pictures:

jpg

jpeg

bmp

gif

Movies:

wmv

mpg

mpeg

You will need 15 minutes for each search and you need only search Local Disk (C:) the C-Disk (all files) not D-Disk too.

You will see this when Search is open (nice program).

Open the Search utility .... ( Start > Search)

Click > All Files and Folders

Type in "jpg" where it says -

"All or part of the file name"

Where it says "Look In " choose

"Local Disk (C:)" in the drop down menu

Click "Search" or "Go" or Okay.

It will now search your entire computer for all picture files ending in the file extension "jpg". 15 minutes. When it is done all these will be in the search folder. You can delete them one by one or click "Edit" all the way up top and click "Select ALL" and then click DELETE - the red x up top.

You will have to repeat this process for each of the type of file extensions.

At least now no one will see nothing and you will be able to have that normal geeky pc talk about viruses.... I guess I won't need to mention that 'free stuff' and the "adult section" are the two worst areas on the internet to get infected - as you have found out the hard way. Count yourself very lucky if you get a clean machine back !

All of the above suggestions are just a cover up, but when looking for viruses they will glow like Rudolfs nose.

Did you look at porn, or download it? Unless your relative is some kind of forensic computer tech use one of the software suggestions the others have offered. If you haven't downloaded anything just clean out your browser. In your browser, go to tools I internet options. Clear your history, delete files and delete cookies. Chill...

many ways, one if u want to get rid of viruses download avg free and run it, if u want to get rid of all porn u have to just delete it manually if u want ur comp to still be usable, if the person if gonna use a program to search ur comp they'll probably find this stuff but thats the best i can tell u without reformatting ur hard drive, which will erase everything even the os there are programs at bestbuy and other places which will do this

uh well everything is stored somewhere, even if you think you delete it, thats how the FBI gets ya. But lats resort to get rid of EVERYTHING is to do a System Restore, where you delete everything on your pc and its starts up like it was new with nothing on it, then you gotta re-install and update everything.
2007-06-08 21:03:55 UTC
Everything you have ever looked at is accessible at any time whether you delete it or not..Go to your start menu-accessories-system tools-restore and restore to a time before you started looking at child porn!

The best way is to wipe the drive then reformat and reinstall windows.

To Manually Remove the Evidence:

First, eliminate all porn pictures, movies, and bookmarks

Then install and run CCleaner

http://www.ccleaner.com/

Do not install toolbar option

In options.

Uncheck "only delete files older than 48 hour" if needed

Select secure file deletion and number of overwrite passes.

Set to run (clean) when the computer starts.

Place cookies you want to keep in save list

Overwriting the deleted files makes them not recoverable. If the files were not overwritten they could be easily viewed using the recovery software below.

To make files that have been previously deleted but not overwritten unrecoverable:

Install Restoration (free)

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,23108-order,1-page,1-c,alldownloads/description.html

Start Restoration > on menu "Others" > Delete completely > Yes >Yes

Will run for about 6 hours.

Then another menu will appear; click yes ; will run for a couple of minutes more and then be finished.

Overwrites all deleted files making them non recoverable. Does not overwrite Windows files, Programs files, or any other files.

To eliminate the viruses/spyware yourself

You have malware installed on your system. If you follow all the following steps it should get rid of your problem and prevent future problems. All programs listed are free.

Securing a Personal Machine

OS Reinstallation vs. Virus Removal

http://safecomputing.umn.edu/guides/rebuild_repair.html

---------------------------------------------------------

Update your antivirus and run a full scan in safe mode

If you do not have full time (active) virus protection install (only one) all are excellent:

AVG Antivirus 7.5 Free Edition

http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/avg-anti-virus-free/lng/us/tpl/v5

http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10669237.html?tag=lst-0-1

Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

or

AOL Active Virus Shield

http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp

---------------------------------------------------------

Install Windows Defender (full time spyware protection)

Perform a full scan.

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

---------------------------------------------------------

Install the following five programs and run weekly or at least monthly. You need all five. They will greatly increase your protection. They are not a substitute for full time spyware and virus protection.

Ad-Aware SE Personal (update + full scan)

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php

Spybot Search & Destroy (update + immunize + scan)

Do not enable Tea Timer and SDHelper

After installation: update + scan + immunize

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

SpywareBlaster: Update then open and click “enable all protection”.

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

SUPERAntiSpyware free version: (update + scan)

http://www.superantispyware.com/

CCleaner: Do not install toolbar option

Removes tracking cookies, unneeded files, history

In options.

Set to run when computer starts.

Place cookies you want to keep in save list

http://www.ccleaner.com/

-------------------------------------------------------------

Note if a scan detects a problem but is unable to remove, start the computer in safe mode with the internet line disconnected and run a full scan.

In severe cases your system restore files will also be infected. In these cases you will need to turn off system restore to prevent malware hiding in the system restore files and reinfecting the computer during removal or during a future system restore. Turning off system restore deletes the system restore files.

Right click on "my computer"> Properties > System Restore Tab > Check box turn off system restore

After the malware is removed turn on system restore.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Run this time only.
