My WiFi connection uses WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] security, however I need a connection with WEP security to use Nintendo WFC. Are there anyways I can set up my connection to use WEP without putting my system at risk?

WEP is a weaker encryption but if you dont do financial stuff on your computer you dont have to worry about it. Go to your internet browser and type in 192.168.1.1. or something like that for netgear and change the settings. If someone wants to get in they will get in whether you use this or that.

Try getting a software firewall they are a bother but might help with security (zone alarm and such are free)

CanadaRAM's answer is really good.

To add to that:

1. Can you just not connect up your Nintendo using a network cable instead of wireless? If you can that would be better.

2. If you have to use wireless and hve to use WEP (which is very insecure and can be hacked easily), then you could configure your Netgear router to lower the signal so it doesn't broadcast your wireless out to the neighbours. Your router should let you change the signal strenght, so lower that so to avoid people outside your house from connecting to your network

3. You could HIDE your SSID to lower the chances of someone trying to find your wireless. Though it can be easily detected.

4. The last thing I can think of is, get a sepearte wireless router and have that with WEP for your Nintendo. Then once you've finished with it, turn off your second wireless router with the WEP encryption. Use your other router with WPA encryption for your normal laptops around the house.

Hope that helps.

Making it WEP will make your network much more insecure. No way around that.

The best you can do is to enable MAC address filtering and only permit your own hardware (as identified by their unique MAC numbers) to attach. Unfortunately, MAC addresses can be spoofed too, so its still weak.

WEP maybe quality in your DS Lite, however you should no longer use it should you plan to connect real desktops to it, as WEP may also be effectively cracked within minutes. In case you care in any respect about network protection, use WPA or WPA2.
