On my process's list there is a process named 'MOM.exe' and it is using 50% of the CPU, which slows my PC down. All my programs take very long to open now, and leaving it make my PC unusable. What is it? Why has it suddenly started using so much CPU? Should I end/remove the process, or leave it? Please help! Also, since this had been happening, none of my ATI related programs work, they just won't open. I treid:

1. Re-installing the latest ATI drivers
2. Re-starting my PC
3. Scanning for viruses, spyware and malware

None of those work. The MOM.exe still takes up 50% of my CPU, and all my ATI programs still don't work! Please help!

if MOM.EXE is in your \windows\ files and using a lot of CPU it is malware.

the legitimate MOM.EXE should be under \program files\ and associated with your ATI graphics card software.

it should take little or no CPU.

Do a search for MOM.EXE (remember to include system and hidden files) and delete or rename the .EXE extension if you find it in a \windows\ path.

MOM.exe is normally a part of a program called the ATI Catalyst Control Center. This program comes as part of the video card driver package you get with ATI Radeon video cards or in updates. MOM.exe takes the place of CLI.exe processes in older versions of the ATI drivers, so the program might appear after an update of your ATI drivers or the installation of a new video card and drivers. The program is generally harmless. Mom.exe is an essential element of the ATI Catalyst Control Center's monitoring software. It should not be deleted. It comes with Catalyst Control Center Installation 7.2 and is an essential process, controlling the ATI video card's graphics functions. Removing it will interfere with the proper functioning of your video drivers. You don't have to run Catalyst Control Center (with MOM.exe) at startup. If you select ATI CCC to be run at startup, a clickable ATI icon will appear at the bottom right of your Windows screen in the system tray. This allows you to quickly change your video card settings, clone a monitor or otherwise adjust how your video card processes signals from your computer. This can be useful if you frequently stream videos to your television set. ATI CCC can be run manually but will take longer to start up. To disable MOM.exe on startup, go to run then type msconfig and press enter. This will open up your system configuration utility. Go to the startup tab and scroll down the list till you find MOM.exe and uncheck the box. Finally click apply and exit the utility. Your computer will now wish to restart. MOM.exe will still run when necessary but will just take longer to start. It will then no longer run unnecessarily in the background. If any problems occur by not running MOM.exe on startup then simply follow this procedure again and rechecking MOM.exe in the startup list again.

MOM.exe is part of the ATI catalyst software, which is probably why your ATI stuff isn't working.

I'd totally UNINSTALL the ATI software, then restart and try reinstalling it, rather than just reinstalling it.

You can also try installing just the driver and NOT the catalyst software. Uninstall all of the ATI software, then go into Control Panels > System > Device Manager and uninstall the driver for your video card.

Have Device Manager re-detect hardware, then browse to where you've downloaded the ATI driver and install it that way. Should install driver and not Catalyst.

If that fails, reinstall Windows.

go on task manager (control+alt+delete) and to process then right click on MOM.exe and click open file location.

Then, delete the folder in what this mom is in.

After, download http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and run a full scan. Remove what it found.
