To tell if you have been hacked, it really takes some thinking for one thing. Some symptoms are that your system runs slow, others are firewalls and host-based intrusion detection systems (HIDS) such as anti-virus programs will often throw up alerts. This can also be determined if your AV programs drop off the grid as running applications, that is if they stop running for no reason. If you suspect your system security and integrity are compromised a hard system shutdown or removal of your internet connection may be your only result to terminate a hacker's activities on your system.

If a website however says this and HIDS scans show negative for threats, than most likely you were just seeing an add or something. If you clicked on it or interacted with the popup, ad, whatever then it is still possible that you may have contracted a rootkit that may be difficult for an AV program to locate.

It is very easy for someone who knows there way a good Operating System [OS] like Linux to hack a Windows or even a Mac computer. However, if you have a good Linux OS then you will know when someone is trying to hack your computer and even stop it with some pretty neat quirky feedback to the other computer.

Windows and Mac OS computers are pushed to be sold to the public by the govenment so they can keep tabs on people who own them. Most of the time without the person even knowing they are watching.

So, if you would like more privacy and be able to deter attacks on your computer, just get a good Linux OS. Of course even a crappy Linux OS is better than the best Windows.
