Don't try, even if your succesful firefox could sometimes crash and you'll need IE to re-download.

You don't really want to disable IE because you need it to download any updates from the Microsoft site. If you are getting popups increase the security settings in IE.

Also, run msconfig from the Run command and select the Startup tab. Uncheck anything that is not necessary and reboot your computer (you can always go back and add the checkmarks back if you find something was disabled in error). This will stop the offending script from loading when your computer first boots up.

EDIT: Contrary to what has been said above, it is quite easy to remove IE. Go to the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and then select Remove Windows Components on the left hand side. Uncheck Internet Explorer and it will be removed. However, it is not a good idea to do this because you may need it later (and then your must reinstall it from your XP disk).

You could try changing your default browser to Firefox (in vista, there is a button called 'default programs' on the start menu where you can change this). Popups are just something you're gonna have to live with i'm afraid. IE had a pop-up blocker, but Firefox's doesn't work very well. Go to tools - options - content and the first check box is about blocking pop-ups. If it's unchecked, then click the box so it becomes ticked and that should solve your problem. If it was already checked, I can't help. I have the same problem too - I get millions of zango ads.

The link below was the first website on google when I typed in 'firefox pop-up blocker'. It's approved by Cnet, so i'm pretty sure it's OK, by I didn't try it personally.

Disabling IE will stop your system working. You can make Fire fox your main browser by just clicking the icon and then it may ask if you want to make it your main browser. Say yes and your away.

Fire fox is brilliant. I would rather use fire fox than IE. I also use thunder bird as my email writer/sender, and they both work together. Highly recommended.Kind regards from the North Coast of the Emerald Isle.
