I have hotmail (at least until it's suspended in favor of outlook.com later this year - your Dad should know about that). And my account was hacked once - there is an option under the "Mark As" menu that says "My Friend Has Been hacked". Have your Dad send himself an email and choose this option. This alerts Hotmail about the problem and they will fix it for him. It will just be fixed and he won't have to do anything else (except maybe apoligize to all the confused recipients). It worked for me, and also my sister had this problem. It's not a serious thing, just inconvenient, stupid and embarrassing. But they'll fix it... Good luck!

Problems like that aren't caused by virus but spyware. That's why your McAfee and AVG, crappy antivirus programs by the way, are not able to detect it. To get rid of spyware you need this:

Delete everything it finds. After that, tell your dad to change his email password as it has been compromised already and may have leaked out to the spyware creator.

EDIT: Can you please report the answer of that Wyatt Cleckner? His suggestion to delete the System32 folder will corrupt your operating system. People like these don't deserve to be on Y!A.

It isn't a virus in the Hotmail account, it was probably either a virus or a hacker got into your account. Change the password and security questions on your account. If it still continues it could be spoofing your dad's email, which cannot be prevented.
