What is an I E Plugin? When I run my security software it tells me I have an I E Plugin. Is it dangerous?

Should I remove I E Plugin? My security software (McAfee) says that it is a potentially unwanted program and gives me the option to remove it. Should I? Will one of the other programs I have installed fail to function properly if I remove the I E Plugin?

Plug ins are helper programs that run with IE and let it do things that aren't built into it. Macromedia Flash is the plug in that let's you watch YouTube videos. Some of them, especially some of the "Free toolbars" have adware and spyware built in to them. If the plug-in is something you installed on purpose, leave it there. If not, remove it. If you lose some functionality in IE that you want, you can always google it and reinstall it. Removing IE plugins shouldn't affect any other programs.

IE plugins are an extension of Internet Explorer and are generally harmless. Toolbars, Adobe Flash, and Shockwave are all examples of IE plugins. Some viruses pretend to be plugins for your browser and cause popups to occur every time you're online. If McAfee is having an issue, research the executable the program is concerned about and make sure it is associated with a known program you have installed. You can also disable IE plugins if you would like to see the effect of your uninstall before actually going through the actions. More information is at the link below.

Well, it depends on what the plugin is for. Because the antivirus software gave you a warning about it, you have good reason to believe that it is something dangerous. Remove it if it is something you don't want (i.e. not Flash or Java).

if the "IE" ur talking about is Internet Explorer then it might be a virus acting like its part of Internet Explorer. or its a plugin for internet explorer, other than those i dont know.

It depends on WHAT plugin it is.

For example, when you go to youtube you have to have macromedia flash installed, which is a kind of plugin.

virus scanners are notoriously anal about any kind of browser extensions.
