Your AV i bet didn't become disabled by default. It became disabled because a bug or virus did it. Try this' Sure fire way of knowing. Go here if you can.

http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

If it will not let you go here you have a virus.

If it lets you go the files of your AV have become corrupt and you will need to delete your AV and reload it.

{EDIT} I WISH YOU HAD TOLD THAT TO START WITH. YOU CAN'T HAVE TWO REAL TIME AV'S RUNNING. THEY WILL CLASH BIG TIME.

IF THERE IS ANY POSSIBLE WAY YOU CAN STICK WITH KASPERSKY. GET RID OF NORTON. KASPERSKY IS 100% BETTER THAN NORTON. IT'S BETTER THAN ANY FREE AV OUT THERE. NORTON IS A MEMORY HOG. IF YOUR TRYING TO RUN BOTH AT THE SAME TIME THAT'S WHAT'S CAUSING YOUR PROBLEM. GET RID OF NORTON IF YOU CAN. IF YOU CAN'T' SAD BUT TRUE' YOU WOULD BE BETTER OFF WITH ANOTHER AV. GET RID OF BOTH AND GET AVIRA AND A GOOD FIRE WALL. DON'T RELY ON THE FIRE WALL THAT CAME WITH THE COMPUTER. IT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH. THE REASON I SAY THAT IS BECAUSE IT IS ONLY A ONE WAY FIRE WALL. IT WILL NOT STOP BAD STUFF FROM COMING IN. IT WILL ONLY KEEP THE BAD STUFF FROM CALLING HOME.

Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should two on demand scanners be running at the same time even if they SEEM to be working. unistall one or both and go with what i recommend.

Hello there, just want to tell you this is easier than you think. Some of the advice you get from others will be correct and some of it totally wrong. I am a computer tech for my own store and I am telling you this because these what I use myself on my own personal machines, the machines I sell, and what I strongly suggest to customers, family and friends. I have tried ALL the major brands and most of the minor brands SIDE-BY-SIDE on many different machines and with many different configurations over many different years! If you want to be totally protected you only need 2 programs and they are FREE!

For your main protection, use AVIRA. Get it at www.free-av.com

There are many different good AV’s out there, some cost money and some are free. From what I have found AVIRA is FREE and still outperforms all free AND paid ones. The only trade off is a pop-up that comes when it does a definition update. So what?

As good as AVIRA is, some things can still slip by as no AV is perfect. As a ‘second opinion’ you have to have a second ‘scanner only’ opinion.

Your second opinion scanner should be Malwarebytes. Get it at www.malwarebytes.org

Run a scan every once in a while just for a bit more peace-of-mind.

PS: If you have Windows Defender uninstall it or turn it off, it’s a good program but it conflicts with other real time protection programs, if you leave it on, AVIRA can’t do as good as job.

PS: Don’t believe what others tell you about adding a firewall. Your built in Firewall from windows XP or Vista is by far good enough. People with weak protection are the ones who will cry “you need a stronger firewall” lol, so don’t listen to them.

Also too, go to www.ccleaner.com and get yourself their cleaner, it’s fast, quick and easy and does a terrific job. Learn to use the Start-UP tool built into it. By disabling unnecessary start-up items is the by far the most dramatic speed up you can do to your machine with little effort.

(As a side note: some of the info I have given here may not apply to what you asked. Since I hate typing, I just copy and paste it as my general response to virus problems. Yes, I am lazy lol)

Obviously you have a problem with missing files or files that are corrupt on your anti-virus product...the only solution is to uninstall the product from the start all programs menu and also in the add/remove programs menu...then do a search for all files and folders on the name of the anti-virus program you have..it will bring up any folders and files that were not deleted during uninstalling it in the add/remove program.....delete them one by one....empty the recycle bin...then restart your computer...you no longer have the av program on your computer...you can download again whatever program you had...or just re-insert the disc if you bought it at a retail store.....and re-install it....by the way what av product are you using ??...that would really help us all......

Perhaps you should try running an online scanner first, it uses the same engines as real product antiviruses just without the real time protection.

google: nod32, microtrend, bitdefender, pandasecurity or kaspersky and search for their online scanner services.

you may want to install threatfire, superantispyware and let them have a run on your computer to see if it picks up anything. What antivirus are you using anyway?

you have a serious virus..... try booting your system in safe mode and try to rid the problem that way. if that doesnt work then redo your system.... Just recently i downloaded from the site finally fast...(and i do not recommend that site to no one) and it totally disabled my antivirus then deleted it and made it to where i could not download it again and then when i turned off my computer it had deleted my windows. so u must fix it fast or your system will crash for sure.

Removing infections by yourself can be very dangerous; they can cause data loss, and you risk damaging the system even more.

Because of the risks I recommend letting a professional help you
