Question:
Slow computer & virus alerts?
2009-06-16 00:20:23 UTC
My vista computer is running really slowly and I often have to restart it as it 'freezes'.
Also I have BigPond paid version of virus and antispyware and Malaware which was reccommended to me by BPond. The Malaware being the free version. My problem also is that I continually get Virus alerts and neither the BP virus scanner or Malaware find any virus or spyware. I delete the alerts but they eventually come back a day or two later. A technicincian from Telstra says I have a possible virus hanging around in the background and need to take my tower to a computer specialist. BigPond say there is nothing wrong wtih my speed as its showing up ok at their end but obviously is not.
I have ADSL wireless and unlimited downloads but now going to go to the cheaper plan as Im not getting monies worth from the $70 plan.
Please could someone help me and in laymans terms plz.
Oh and my computer runs a diagnostic health check every month or so automatically and it finds nothing wrong.
Regards

If that is my PC I would change my OS to XP since I can use XP without many problem specially on processing speed, your system might not meeting the recommended requirements of VISTA. VISTA is okey as long as you meet or exceed the requirements, but I use XP because it still gives what I need.

Now if you insist it, try to defrag the hard drive.

Uninstalling the programs that runs in startup might also work but it wouldn't be a problem if you have lots of RAM, either add RAM or loose some programs on startup.

Good luck!

If the virus alerts are popping up even after scans. I would recommend you running scans in safe mode, with your antivirus or now that you've already used it, try online scanners by bitdefender, panda security or nod32. They work as the real thing.
