Put the file in an encrypted, compressed document like .zip or .rar. I know that WinRAR allows you to put a password on the files.

Assuming Windows Vista:

Right click on the file. Go to "Properties", then "security". You can edit who can access the file. It's not a straight password on the file, but it doesn't make any difference...Just password your windows account, and disallow any other accounts from accessing it.

If you can't put a password on a file, I usually hide the file or folder and unhide it when I am ready to use it. To hide, right click menu and select properties>down to attributes and select hidden. To unhide Go To Documents>tools>folder options>view>select show hidden files and folders.

WinRAR is too much trouble.you have to unzip everytime you want to see or edit your file.

I suggest you create a admin account for yourself and a NON-ADMIN account for the others.

but if you just wanna put a password on a certain file, you can try 3rd party file locking softwares.

you can search in download.com,try this
