I need to install a new anti-virus program...?

I am going to install something new because right now I am using a security suite that is offered for free by my internet provider and it does not seem to be working well. What do you recommend I use? What is the best out there and why do you say that it is?
I have heard that AVG is good and it is free... but I am willing to pay for the best so that my computer will run normally. Please give me good reasons on why I should use the product you recommend. Thank you.

I recommend Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security Suite 2006. It will cost you about $49.00 USD. I recommend it because it is very easy to use and has a great graphic user interface (i.e. the controls are very intuitive). After installing the software, the default settings will update virus signatures automatically, scan for viruses on a schedule, setup the firewall and prompt you to set privacy levels. The suite has a robust list of features. Besides the antivirus and firewall, it also contains: parental control, private information control, anti-phishing filter, content blocking and Wi Fi security. Many other Internet security suites can not compare the features nor the cost of Trend Micro. I have been using Trend Micro for 3+ years now and I am very happy with it. 3 years ago, I wasn't too computer savvy, so Trend Micro was a good choice. Norton, ZoneAlarm, McAfee and other security software products are harder to use. Their firewalls display cryptic messages asking for permission for a program to connect to the Internet. Controls for certain features are buried in submenus. All of these vendors charge for tech support. Some charge $30.00 USD per incident. Others charge for each minute. As for Trend Micro, tech support is free. Even better, you actually can talk to the tech over the phone. Some vendors only provide support via e-mail. I agree with the person that send Trend Micro. Trend catches alot of viruses before other companies. However, here are two other things that many people don't do with their computers and you should do it regularly.

Microsoft Update- Microsoft constantly has updates for their operating system because of security issues etc. You should set up your system to automatically download and install updates.

Spyware- if you surf the internet, you have spyware. There are a ton of programs out there that help. If you do nothing your pc will eventually slow to a crawl and you will have people and companies tracking your every movement. My favorite free program is Ad-Aware. My favorite pay program is "pest patrol" from Computer Associates. I use it and it works well.

As far as I am concerned, Trend PC-Cillin is the best. I have had Norton before Trend and found it to be tiresome in that it slows the computer down quite a bit. There are also a few problems with it when updating. I had problems getting the update key into the software. You have to re-register each year. This is not the problem. With Norton, when you re-register, you have to follow a complex sequence of steps to get your antivirus going again. I was not happy with it. I don't know if they changed it, but Trend is much easier and seems to work very well.

You may want to access whether the problem that's keeping your computer froming running correctly is really virus related. AVG is a good and free software package, try it and see if you like it. Often times any problem with a computer people associate with viruses, and it's many times not the problem. What trouble are you experiencing? You may also need a spyware removal program to go along with your virus software. Try Microsoft Defender for free as well.

AVG is the best, and its free, so you wont have to pay. It is better than McAfee and Norton. You do not need to pay for Norton or McAfee. The only reason they make you pay, is so they can pay the programmers who make the viruses for their programs to protect you from. If you look at a viruses history, you will usually see that the writer works for Symantec or McAfee themselves.

I would get AVG. I run it, and it finds viruses that McAfee or Norton dont, because they dont create the viruses, so that means they will find all viruses that are known, not just the ones their (McAfee and Norton) programmers make.

use ANTIVIR!

The reason? it is very simple to use. It's just like INSTALL & FORGET. Why? once installed, everyday it's automatically updating if it has new vdf.

Then just forget it, it will sit on your system tray and waiting if your system have virus and if does, it will pop-up. Just see to it that the umbrella on your system tray is open when you're using your computer. And this is the ONLY ONE thing you will do!

I'm using it for 6 years now and it's very good for me, not complex to use. And for your information, I've used lots of antivirus out there... but still I preferred ANTIVIR. You may see for yourself.

Also, it's 100% free (personal editon), why pay for such antivirus when there's free and the best out there!

AVG Professional is, in my opinion, the best. I use it in many businesses I set up and with home users and they are much happier than with Norton or Mcaffee. Go to http://www.my-it-department.biz/AntiVirus.html and read more and order anti virus or go to grisoft .com

AVG updates daily so unlike many antivirus programs you don't have to worry about a virus coming out and your software not being updated to protect from it yet. This happens ALOT with norton especially.

hi, perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.

i also recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.

besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

download firefox for free:

Do not use Norton or McAfee. They are a burden on the system. Try using Trend or eTrust Innoculate by Computer Associates. eTrust is superlight application and doesnt let you machine crumble.
